Pec Tear Need Help

I had an MRI done and the diagnosis was a retracted of the pectoralis major muscle from the humerus(of course did this bench pressing). I have been to two orthopedic specialists and one of them had no prior experience with the injury and the other had assisted in a repair 4 years ago. I am very frustrated in trying to find someone who is somewhat experienced with this repair. I am in Oklahoma and if you know of a Doctor in this area that you could refer me to I would greatly appreciate it.

Try to find an ortho doc that works with the college athletes there.

I don’t think I’ve ever meet anyone who has had a torn pec who didn’t do it bench pressing. That’s how I tore mine. The one thing I would be sure to mention to your doctor is to have them make the incision horizontally and not vertical. That way the scar will look more like a stretch mark and not be as visible. I had mine repaired in 2005 and they did a good job but my scar runs vertical and is very visible.

Oklahoma is not the best place to find highly specialized doctors. Keep looking though, you might have to find one in a large city far from home.

When you tore your pec did was there bruising the affected area? I strained my pec this morning from doing db bench press and it hurts but it's not bruised. I've had a similar injury years ago but it went away with rest and icing it down.

When I tore mine I heard the tendon pop and new right away what had happened. I could tell when I looked in the mirror that my pec had dropped some but the swelling set in so fast you couldn't see it after a few minutes. Went to the emergency room where I set for hours waiting to see a doctor only to have him tell me that I probably had a bad strain and sent me home with some pain meds. When I woke up in the morning my entire right bicep and my right pec were black and purple. Went to the ortho got a MRI and had the surgery to have it repaired within 2 weeks.

PEC TEAR

Dr. James Andrews. The best in the world. Does all NFL, wrestlers etc. He repaired mine after 18 months. Birmingham Al. Make the trip! The sooner the better!

I see. Yeah, my injury isn't as bad as yours. It just hurts when I flex it really hard or overstretch it. I think ice and rest will suffice for me. Thanks for your input.

He's the doc that repaired brett favre's torn bicep tendon. I think he also repaired tom brady's knee.

How much did it cost ya for the surgery? Have a torn bicep tendon I want to get fixed

Question is...........Does your insurance cover it? You're not seriously going to pay out of pocket for this surgery when insurance could cover up to 90% of the cost.

Insurance refused my surgery 5 years ago when my bicep tendon was partially injured.

Now its pretty much fully injured, so I'm waiting for the appointment in 2 weeks, to argue with them, and show them that because of their negligence, I am now even more further injured.

was just asking out of curiousity what it maybe would cost without insurance... just incase Kaiser decides to keep their heads in the ground.

I feel your pain. Finding a doctor with experience like this for an athlete can be difficult. Use that google button and do more searching. You may have to leave your state,,but I would have it fixed by someone who knows what they are doing.

That's fucked up that your insurance won't cover surgery for your torn bicep tendon. I would fight them till the bitter end until they cover it or find another insurance company to go with. Good luck to you bro.
