Just wanted to let you bro's know that my doc thinks my girl and I have Pertussis which is also known as whooping cough. We've had this cough for like a month now with congestion in our head and lungs off and on. It started with a dry cough for me that I just couldn't shake. I'd have these coughing spasms and feel like I was going to pass out. Several times while driving. My doc had both of us in yesterday and is going to culture some stuff out of our noses. Evidently, this is something that is sort of on the rise across the country and takes months to get over it. Less time if treated early with antibiotics. The ones at risk, they say, are newborn's under 1 year and elderly people who may have lowered immune systems. Most of the kids have to have their DPT shots and have been vaccinated, but the vaccine only lasts about 10-12 years from the time it was given. So its not for life. The bacteria is spread by droplets of water from one person to the next. So keep some hand sanitizer with you at the gym and bring your own water. Be carefull with shaking others hands(which is I think how I got it-shaking someones hand at the gym). If you haven't had your DPT shot in 10 years or more, then you might want to go see your doc and get one. Pertussis accounts for about 7%-10% of respiratory infections in the US and has three stages. It characterized by a "whoop" sound when you breathe out, but not everyone will get that. Mine is noticable and my doc put me on an inhaler. I'm on my 2nd Z-pac. The first one made me feel better, but then I started hitting it hard in the gym and the symptoms came back even more severely.
Anyway, just wanted to give all you guys a heads up and look into getting your DPT.
Peace...
