PHYSICAL for life insurance

I'm appling for a life insurance policy and they want a blood test and urine sample. They will weight me and clock my height too. I was told that at 6' 230lbs even with 10% bf I might not be at a prefered rate. This seems wrong. I'm in great condition @ 50. Probably the best I have ever been. Their guidelines do not take bf in consideration only BMI. Will this blood and urine test make a difference if I'm on AAS, is this something they will be looking for?

The only things they usually check for are blood lipids, cocaine, marijuana(sometimes), alcohol, etc. They won't be checking for steroid esters.

Their whole system is f*cked up. Even a Arnold would have been classified as standard, and not preferred. The insurance companies are so antiquated with their underwriting methods. There was actually many studies that came out proving that the blood and urine samples did not make the actuarial projections of the underwriters any more accurate than when done without them.

Good luck!

They won't check for aas. You'll want to watch out, though, for your blood pressure and cholesterol. Mine weren't bad, but they were all in the high range, which didn't help my premium. I hate the height/weight standards that they use too. I'm 5'10", 215 lb at 10% bf - according their chart I should only weigh 145 lb? I would have to be anorexic, get cancer, and cut off a limb to weigh that much. That being said - there's no way you'll get the premium rate.

You are absolutely wrong bro--- Life Insurance actuarial data is constantly updated, it is anything but antiquated. Their build charts are liberal--- 230 at 6'0" will get you a Standard or Standard Plus rate depending on the company (ask your agent if he/she has Prudential as they are quite liberal with their build chart).

a 6'0" man can usually get a Standard rate up to 270-280 lbs depending on the company, which is more than fair. Keep in mind, the more you weigh the harder your system/heart has to work-- regardless of bf % (this is coming from a guy who was at one time 260 lbs at around 10-12 % bf, so I know). Standard = average, keep that in mind--- Life insurance rate classes are based on how long you may live. The heavier you are, the shorter your life span (in general, of course)--- this is a simple fact

As for the labs, they will not test for gear at first---but they can reserve the right to if they suspect something's up. Depending on what you are using, you could have elevated liver enzymes, cholesterol/tris, proteinuria, creatinine, blood pressure---- you may end up with a substandard rate.

The nurse will ask you about drug use (most life insurance policies have a 2 year contestability clause if the insured dies during that time). The nurse also is asked to make notes if the client-- you-- in some how look different than the "average" person.

I hope you end up with a Standard rate, but I would still suggest taking the policy if you are rated substandard (hopefully you are not declined....and I'm not trying to scare you, but I don't know how much shit your using and/or if you take the proper ancillary supps/meds to maximize your health). If you are rated substandard, you can always take the policy and apply for a better rate class once you've cleaned your system up (once again, I hope your labs turn out good and this is not a factor---I'm telling you this just in case)

good luck

how did this turn out for you? Could be a discrimination issue if they want to push it.

how funny

how did this turn out for you? Could be a discrimination issue if they want to push it.

Alin I have much respect for you, but you are 100 % wrong--- although you did give me a huge laugh to start off my Thanksgiving :D .....maybe stick to bb and gear advice from now on ;)

I have been looking for life insurance recently, and have to admit i am not real impressed with the bullshit they use as guidlines! JOKE!

now i'm getting pissed off

How ironic that so many people on this board constantly complain about how the general public doesn't understand bb'ing or AS, but I continue to see completely ignorant comments in this thread---comments regarding a subject of which you do not have sufficient knowledge.

First off, and I'm sure many of you know this, eating to build large amounts of muscle mass is not really "healthy". Let's take 2 guys who are both 6'0" ---same bf %, both take supplements, drink lots of water, limit sugar and processed crap---blah blah blah.....one of them weighs 250 lbs and the other weighs 180 lbs. Would do you think is "healthier" and, by the #'s, will live a longer life? Is the 250lb guy in better health than a McDonalds eating, Pepsi drinking fat ass?--yes. If you continue to push your body way past homeostasis, it will catch up with you eventually. If you were to ask Phil Hernon or DC, they would probably tell you the same thing---- stuffing yourself with 6000 calories per day is not the best thing to do to your body, but many of us love bb'ing and try to balance risk vs reward.

When Dorian lost tons of weight after his Olympia run, I kept hearing people ask if he was sick or why he got so small. Some said he just wanted to get off the AS, but I assume he was also sick of eating so much. Dorian seems like a smart guy and probably wants to live past the age of 50.

Getting back to insurance-- let me ask you guys, if you had a DUI and your car insurance provider raised your premium would you say "it's just one DUI, why should I have to pay more than the people without DUI's? waaaaaaa:( "
No, you would probably realize you're a fucking retard for driving drunk and be happy that someone would still write you a policy. I can understand someone being upset b/c their homeowners insurance dropped them after one claim, or having to deal with the increasing cost of health insurance (much of that being related to all the illegal aliens and others mooching off the system---with average joes having to foot the bill).

Life insurance is fair b/c it's not state mandated--- so the companies can establish their own underwriting guidelines. Their underwriting is filed with the states-- build charts and everything else....and if they want to decline you it's perfectly within their right to do so. Do life insurance companies discriminate? Of course they do! They discriminate, as defined by Webster-----to make or constitute a distinction in or between; differentiate. A smoker, who is otherwise healthy, will generally pay 3-4 times more than a non-smoker--- is that "unfair"?

Actuaries get paid big money to pour over statistics; these companies want to write policies, but your rate class is determined by these statistics and the law of large #'s ..........if I hear anyone else whining about this stuff, I'm going to cut one of their fingers off with my turkey knife (not really :D )....

now I've got to eat some turkey and hope for Donald Driver to finally get me some fantasy points.......gobble gobble

very true and well said.

I always wondered why people just dont lie and say that they are non smokers. This would apply to other vises like drinking alchohol and using illicit drugs. Do most companies ask questions about the usage of such? To me it seems like they have to rely a lot on the honesty of the customer.

Many companies will take a swab of the mouth to check/verify if the people who say they are non-smokers are in fact, non-smokers. Just a part of the entire process.

I took blood test for life insurance while on dbol. came back with elevated liver levels. Came with elevated premium.

Although I respect your thoughts, I just finished putting together a customized actuarial table along with the top actuarial firm in the nation. The person we hired to consult for us was the Chairman of the committee that developed the ACLI Interim Tables by the Society of Actuaries. They are only the tables that the entire Life Insurance industry works from. I have spent time in Washington DC meeting with the ACLI on this subject and other regarding the life insurance industry and its future trends. So, I believe I am far from "ignorant" on this subject. I take great care in posting anything, no matter what the subject, especially one in which I am intimately involved and dedicated. Good luck!

We can discuss in further detail if you wish. I never said the LI underwriting was unfair. I said it was fucked up. There are still companies that are working off the old CSO tables which have been updated each year from that insurance company's experience rates, which does not include those lives where the policies have lapsed. There are many things that are inaccurate about the underwriting of these companies. The underwriting is also geared toward the type of market the company wants to target, the types of risks they can tranche, reserve requirements, geographics (each state has it's own actuarial adjustment), etc. Not one insurance company is concerned with predicting when someone is actually going to die. All they are concerned with, and rightfully so, is predicting their future liabilities. So, in actuality, you can consider the "actuarial" tables just that, actuarial probabilities that the insurance company will have to pay a claim some time in the future. They are NOT mortality tables. The most updated "mortality" tables would be the US tables, which track deaths throughout the US. However, these do not have all the data collected by the insurance carriers, and, as I said before, once the policy lapses, as most term policies do, the insurance company is no longer interested in that person's health, life etc. I could continue, but I'm getting tierd and need to get some sleep :D So, although many things you said are true, and I agree with most of it, there is nothing I said that was inaccurate.

Let me know if you would like to continue. I love this area :D

East- My main point was people complaining about the unfairness of the build charts and the overall ignorant tone to this thread. You obviously know your stuff; I've been involved the the insurance industry for a while and I generally enjoy dealing with life rather than p+c or other lines (America is so under-insured, life insurance wise, it's sad).

Yes, it all comes down to money in the end----they could care less when you die if you policy has already lapsed :D ---most term policies lapse with a couple years of the inforce date (making the newer ROP products a great money maker) Underwriting can vary widely from company to company and there are certainly areas that need to be improved--although I do believe the build charts to be generally fair.

I doubt many on this board would want us to take up space with life insurance shop talk, but I do thank your for the insight and knowledge regarding the topic

Dr. S,

It's all good:D I love a good debate...only when it's in an area of knowledge for me. I must have misunderstood where you were coming from  I agree, there's no reason to complain about unfairness when it comes to a company deciding on what risks they will take on for that marginal profit. At least we all know where some of the insurance knowledge is on this board:D

EB

My gf is a nurse for an insurance company. All she does is physicalls for them and NO, they do not check for gear. They do check for colest. and bp. Maryjane, coke,etc.. So steer clear of that!
