Yeah,that would work well. Just be careful with using the 18 gauge depending on how many times you stick that same vial. If you penetrate that stopper too many times with a big needle you might end up with an area that isn't air tight anymore. I had it once. When you turn the vial upside down to draw from it you will see tiny air bubbles coming up from the stopper, that is the air from the room leaking into the vial. A leak like that could introduce a pathogen.



You can try to move around the point where you penetrate the stopper each time, but after awhile they will start to run together.

Well, that's what I always did and still do. Using a 23 gauge is a good compromise because it doesn't take forever to fill and is easy to inject with because it is small enough. It isn't so big that you are putting huge holes in the stopper. It really depends on how many times you have to perforate that stopper to empty out the vial. Do the math. If it is too many times you will have trouble.

So if you are seeing the air bubbles now when it is upside down then I would stop using the big needle to draw. You could still use two 23 gauge needles if you want. One to draw and the other to inject, so it is a nice fresh/sharp needle that goes into your skin. Just avoid using a large gauge needle in the stopper.

23 gauge 1 inch is my sweet spot. Anything smaller and it will take 10 minutes to fill, I don't have that patience. You could back fill it though, but kinda a pain.

Put 18g to fill then switch to
25 or smaller
