I think this is going to come up 50:50 and I want to confirm it with a poll. Who do you think is going to win? I have $20 on Hughes against A50# and also a small bet with a buddy of mine. I will not be surprised If I win or lose that bet.

Their will be a show on spike TV at 10 pm tonight (may 22nd) its basically a ufc 60 preview for this fight if your interested.

I think the Guys are right and Haze Said it best in his post....
Still though One slip and Gracie could catch him in a submission and win it.
Im pulling for Gracie by a submission... BUT if I were putting my money on the line I think id have to take Matt Hughes.

Hes not going to Run right thru him though,Imo
Gracie is no punk and I think a Lot of people are underestimating him
I guess we will find out this weekend :)

Since this one is Not In Vegas Does Gracie get to wear the Gi?(sp)

no question

hughes gets him. i agreee one slip and gracie has him but hughes is too focused. should be a good fight though

Im not sure I think he can wear it, Its going to be in my home town I wish I would have gotten tickets but I hate the venue.

I have $20 on Hughes

Same here bro. My friend wanted to go $100 but that recent Gracie training video swayed me to bet less. Anyway its gonna be a great fight either way (i hope :D ).

Gracie by submission no doubt.

Gracie does not get to wear the gi, additionally there are going to be time periods and multiple rounds.

If that is not enough consider this the UFC brings fighters back to the feet very quickly now

They have changed the rules of the UFC to make stand up more competitive. Several of Gracies original fights in the UFC he would have lost under the new rules.

Gracie is not going to be allowed to lie on his back and wait for Hughes to make an error, they will bring them back to the feet quickly

I think under the old rules Gracie would win the fight, Under the new rules is is going to be very difficult for Gracie to win. All Matt has to do when they go to the ground is stall until they are brough back up

Even Gracie said years ago that once a time limit is imposed all the opponent will do is stall they know they can hold on for x amount of time. When you take away the time limit Gracie wins eventually the opponent tires and there strength advantage is gone.

Having said all of this I think Hughes could have made a fight under old rules but we will never know now. He will not do anything on the mat but stall. The original rules would have forced the clash of styles and we would see a small wrestlers skill against gracie.
Unfortunately now we will see 2 sub par strikers box If it goes to the ground it will stalemate and come up in under a minute mark my words

outcome

having just watched the preview on spike tv i have to go with gracie by submission. hughes is very strong but gracie was shown submitting fighters at least 60, 70 lbs heavier than himself. if it were up to me though i would watch 3 five minute rounds of the hot babes prancing around with the round number cards!

Tom, it's funny you mention that because I just bought a semi-transparant bikini to wear while I prance around the ring between rounds. It took a lot of convincing but Dana White finally agreed to let ME be the ring girl since this is such a special fight. Wait til you see my ass in that thing.....heavenly.

Anyway, I think it's gonna be kind of sad really. I think Hughes is gonna dominate and destroy Gracie quickly.

if it is a ground fight then gracie wins, if not he loses. Simple as that.

I second everything you said here!!
Hughes wins by boring lay and pray with an occasional few shots landing...

Tom You make some good points, after watching the show on spike matt said hes going to keep the fight standing up. it seems the only way matt can lose is if he makes a mistake, and hes so skillfull and experienced that their is a very slight chance of that.

I wouldn't count Hughes out once they go to the matt... remember when Gracie fought they were allowed to use their Gi as part of a submission, not aymore. Hughes is no slouch on the ground and he does outweigh Gracie and is much stronger. I still say Hughes in Round 2

Well, they're both supposed to be weighing 175, but yeah, I don't think Matt will exactly be helpless when it goes to the ground.

Round 2? Gracie has never been knocked out or even close. He has been fighting since UFC all over the world, He has 2 losses on his record, 1 was a choke out in a jui jitsu match in Brazil, Choke out as in he did not tap he went out, The other was due to an accumalation of leg kicks by Sakurabi in Pride in Japan after 5 rounds(remember Sakurabi knocked out Shamrock in under 30seconds). Gracie simple did not continue and stayed on his chair between rounds. He could not put weight on the leg

Point is no one has ever knocked him out despite the fact that he has fought a lot of Big guys, interesting to note his two losses are against smaller skilled opponents using technique and not power hitters.

Hughes is not a striker anyway. Do you think he will submit Gracie?
