Pretty Sure I Have an Infection...

SO, I shot 1cc of prop into my tricep last Monday. The next day, the site was pink and there was a lot of pain. Over the next couple of days, I had no side effects such as flu-like symptons (fever, chills, etc) and the only thing that that sucked about it was the pain. Then, a sac of fluid appeared above my elbow. I thought it was just more swelling. This morning I decided I would try and lance it with a pin to see what was in it. It started to ooze a clear/yellow fuid in one spot, but clean red blood in the other. I am sure it is infected now...but still no flu symptoms some six days later. Could it be a sterile abcess? What are the implications? Can I take anything that is OTC before I need to go to the doctor? Is there any chance that I injected too shallow, and the oil settled just above my elbow causing this sac? The liquid that came from the hole I put in it resembled the oil I shot there. The pain is subsiding, it has gotten significantly better since the beginning of the week.

Go get some Keflex. The doctor will prescribe it to you, its an antibiotic; or you can go to a petstore. Keflex is an OTC antibiotic for fish

I went to petsmart and they didn't carry any. would a topical antibiotic work?

common with prop. not sure about the ooze that came out. i'd guess oil and such and that you injected too shallow as it migrated under your skin toward your elbow (gravity)

abscesses generally don't form in a day or two. prop is just some painful stuff sometimes

I went digging through my medicine cabinet and found a bottle of cefalexin from a previous infection (un-injection related). Within 2 days of administration, the ailment cleared up.
