was wondering if consuming a bit of diet soda on a low carb would add on more water or fat do to the sodium in the soda, or does the sodium not make that make much of a difference,

i had the same question but from everything ive read it shouldnt cause you to gain fat or hinder fat loss just due to the sugar alcohals. the sodium might make you hold water but its actually super minimal when you think about it. It might bloat you though cause of the carbonated water. Kinda does me, but i drink like 5 cans a day and im on low carb :D

You DO gotta be careful of stuff like splenda and equal ect. They use maltodextrin as a filler and that does have a G.I. Stevia is all natural but personally id rather drink my coffee black or whatever youd put iit in bland cause it tastes like dog crap!

aspartame sucks

so does sucralose and all the others with the exception of stevia

do some research on how bad this stuff is for you if you consume it on a regular basis, I had many problems (mostly mental) vanish practically over night when I quit taking these substances

yea i stopped my splenda intake about 3 weeks ago, although on my carb refeed i will have 2 with my morning decaf :D I never noticed a diff but i can imagine what all that shit is doing 'behind the scenes' in your body. Its messed up too cause i use to take in probably....12 packs a day! I drink alotta decaf when im dieting to help me get to my next meal and id always throw some splenda in there. Now i just take it black or with a pack of *ugh* stevia...

I'd be very interested to see this research. Please show the research showing that these are harmful.

I only drink two diet sodas a day, and I drink them early in day.. when I diet I don't specifically do low carb, so I am not real sure how low you go.. I do like two 100 days then drop to 50 then 20 for two days befor weigh in.. then I have two free days, where I eat moderate carbs.. I taper off the carbonated drinks later in day, kind of like how most do with carbs.. that way when I wake up in mornings I am not holding much of anything and d I am at my natural weight

google and youtube are your friend

as for aspartame, many of my buddies in Desert Storm drank plenty of diet soda ( which sat for weeks and months in the desert heat effectively freeing the toxic chemicals) that was donated to them and many of them suffer permanent neurological damage as a result from the breakdown of the aspartame into methanol, aspartic acid and phenylalanine

google and youtube for info...

google and youtube are worthless. anyone can write anything and post it as fact on either. medical journals are where you find facts.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/gquery

i've heard no adverse effects from sucralose taken in normal amounts. i have heard of some people getting minor side effects: headache, gi upset, etc...

There are very well done HUMAN studies that show that having something 'sweet tasting' in your mouth and then spitting it out actually raises insulin.

This is neurological of course.

But this can obviously be applied to diet soda because of the sweeteners in it.

But I honestly don't think it is anything to sweat.

I would just ditch the soda.

i agree..if its a big deal just ditch it bro. I dont think it would hurt to drink them though. I know Alex A talks about drinking diet sodas and look at him:eek:

i dunno what diet your following but Dave P's diet allows d-soda as well. If your doing a keto diet though i heard, and thats what i mean, heard, not read any real evidence, that citric acid can bump you outta ketosis. If this is true alotta diet sodas have it, like diet coke. Just stick with diet dr. pepper. After all, it tastes more like regular Dr PEPPER  :p

Do you have any real science, like from PubMed?

You do know that a glass of orange juice or a piece of fruit probably has more methanol than a diet soda?

Diet soda may not be good for you but it's not going to hurt a low card diet.

My only concern would be the carbonation. Supposedly it hinders the digestive process. ;) This really sucks for me because I like to choke down my chicken breasts and hot sauce with Diet A&W.

that is why I feel if you want to drink them, as do I, more as a comfort than anything, I drink them early in the day, like I do with heavier carbs.. that way I don't seem to hold them as long, and its all gone by next morning

i haven't heard of this... if tasting sucralose does raise insulin it would just drive blood sugar lower because there isn't any sugar. bulked sweeteners are different because they contain calories

I never had a problem with it, however you do have to watch your intake of Malto. it can kick you out of keto and make you crave carbs again.

Why drinking that shit, Its crap.

We drink it for the taste of course. it breaks up the monotony of eating the SAME THING day in and day out:D
