Hey Big Man I was curious if when in a competition if nerves take over and your not able to make a lift that you normallly would in the gym. I'll give an example, I had a friend named Igor or " The Viking" we called him who was a power house in the gym. The guy could bench close to 600lbs, squat over 800lbs, and deadlift somehwere in the 700's but only in the gym. The reason I say that is he would go to comps and loose every time and when we asked the winning lifts he always had those poundages beat.

I watched some PW comp on ESPN2 the other day and it seemed no one made a lift they were supposed to so what's the deal.

Oh yea and tell me if these are decent for power comps.

at a weight of 245 I did my best squat of 705, bench of 455 and a dead of 635 seems ok eh.

I can't do that now though I'd break in half.

I actually lift better in a contest than in the gym. Some people get really nervous when they are in a strange environment . We call it "platform jitters".

As for people not making lifts, it could be a few different things. 1) the weight is too heavy , 2) they aren't focused, 3) their supportive gear isn't adjusted properly. Any time you push yourself to the limit you risk failure.

Your lifts are pretty respectable.

I think your lifts are respectable as well.

Phil's just give fathead the "negative" motivation that he craves :D

as in any competitive endeavor (or high pressure scenario) some thrive in the heat of battle, harness the adrenaline rush, and have the underlying mental confidence and focus to be at there very best in these situations--obviously they are the ones who excel in such a milieu

others just crumble from nerves, pressure, and the stress of being tested

they need to rewire there mental platform and train themselves to excel under said conditions
the body AND mind must be trained and then can work in concert to yield the energy of the competitive situation to one's favor and be at their optimal level--all champions have this ability
