Question On Progression

If you hit a stagnant spot on an excercise and switch to a similiar exercise which you are weaker on but can make progress, will you get bigger? For example say someone could squat 385 for 5 sets of 5 and then hit a stopping point. He switches to front squats for 275 for 5 sets of 5. Even though he is lifting less weight with the front squats, will he grow?

I know I worded this poorly, but if you understand I would appreciate some input. Thanks.
 
Hey my friend ......I hope things have been well ..you always ask such great questions ........I would say yes .......this goes with DC teaching as well ......think about it .....your muscles don't remember a specific weight .......they are only addapting to stress that is being placed upon them .......so what I am getting at if you back squat 405 for reps and get stuck and switch to front squats with 315 but make progess ......you still should make gains .......why? your body is addapting to stress and getting stronger at the new angle .......I also think guys get lazy .....buy the half and 1 lb plates in powerlifting USA ......you can constantly make progress using these plates .....they even have magnets that can attach to your dbs .......progession is the key ......along with recouperation and sound nutrition .........remember genetics get maxed out .......you can t grow or get stronger forever ........after awhile it is time to access things.......then maybe back off and train for fun and health .......once genetic limits are near taxed ...it is realitivily easy to maintain top condition with little effort if you are consistant and intelligent ..........

Thanks J. That is my line of thinking too. I just want people to start thinking and asking more about training and nutrition then drugs. Maybe my stupid questions will get on peoples nerves and they will talk about what works for them training and nutrition wise.
 
Right there with you my friend ........you have a ton of knowledge .......you worked with Phil , Skip , and DC .....lots to share here ........just remember once you guys max out your your genes .......no need to kill yourself anymore .....enjoy your training use to to age gracefully , look good , and for stress relief ..........don't bang your head against the wall forever it wont stay fun ........But share more ......I share your perspective .....I wish all the drug shit would become secondary and just top guys trying to do things smarter / healthier ......instead of people looking for the magic potion .....remember when you were once like that ? .....Lol .....I guess everyone has to learn the hard way ...huh?

Bulldog, right now I am dieting for a show and rotating carbs, so I will give you an idea of one of my workout days:

AM
5g BCAA's, 10g Glut and 45 min cardio

0700
8oz Lean Hamburger Meat
2 cups green beans or brocolli
2 fish oil caps

0930
2 scoops protein
1/2 cup strawberries
1 tblspn Nat PB
2 caps fish oil

1200
Same as Meal 1

1430
Same as Meal 2

1700 (30-60min pre workout)
1 scoop Waxy Maize w/BCAA's, Glut and CEE

Workout

Right after workout
1 scoop Waxy Maize w/BCAA's, Glut and CEE

Then I do 45 min cardio

2 scoops protein
3 packs maple and brown sugar oatmeal

2 hours after that
2 scoops protein
1/2 cup strawberries
20g glut

Before Bed
5g BCAA's and ZMA

When I get up to use the head in the middle of the night I will often times take another 5g of BCAAs

I like the the diet my friend ......how is the prep going thus far ? That is alot of cardio .........are you sure you need that much ? .....Behind ? remember phil and Skip aren t huge on cardio unless really needed..........I like everything else .......maybe should be eating so more solid food , but I like what you have put together ........the waxy maze is some good stuff for sure
 
Well if you are trying to make strength gains while you are in a caloric deficit for your show then it will be extremely tough, not saying it hasn't been done but for most dieters its tough.......Iabadman has a some good suggestions on the strength part....

That is a good looking comp diet Diezel, keeps us posted on how things are going with everything!!

Iabadman, I don't think that's alot of cardio for me. For some reason I've learned over time that my body responds well to moderate paced cardio for both growth and dieting. Even in the offseason I will do 30-45 min of cardio 4 to 6 times a week in the morning to help with my appetite and stay lean while growing.

Chris250, Thanks for your interest. You have been a big help to me in the past whether you remember it or not. I always have you in my prayers. I am 5'5 and started my diet at 187 fairly lean. I could see my abs and some separation in my quads. That was 3 or 4 weeks ago. I'm now 5 1/2 weeks out weighing in at 179. I feel like I'm on track. I still need to get rid of the lower back fat, but I'm confident. The show is Oct 28.

IN REGARDS TO YOUR INITIAL QUESTION....I REALLY BELIEVE IT DOES KEEP YOU GROWING WHEN YOU SWITCH EXERCISES....FOR EXAMPLE...BARBELL PRESSES FOR CHEST... TO DUMBELL PRESSES...AND THANK HEAVENS. BECAUSE IT SUCKS TO CONTINUALLY POUND AWAY AT ONE DAMN EXERCISE DAY IN DAY OUT.....A SWITCH FRESHENS EVERYTHING UP MENTALLY AS WELL. :)

STAY SMART AND DON'T HURT YOURSELF IN THE GYM AS YOU DIET! I AM EXCITED TO SEE HOW YOU TURN OUT. WIN, LOSE OR DRAW. LOL...
