i saw the Real Sports special- it was nice to see an alternate point of view from the usual afterschool special fare...
collins is also a great representative for AAS users- an educated professional who can articulate himself well and present his (or our) case quite well, even in the face of folks like that host douche.
maybe i am being negative in my way of thinking; but i just don't see it making any difference with regards to the public perception of athletes who use.
bodybuilding aside, the perception has been created, and the media perpetuates the myths behind AAS usage. unfortunately the general public accepts mass media as fact in most cases. users will be regarded as reckless cheaters with a propensity towards violence, std contraction, etc. and i think we all know that professional athletes don't need steroids to be violent, reckless, sexual predators lol...
and when it comes to bodybuilding you can forget about it ever being accepted (AAS usage) or tolerated. bodybuilding is not regarded as a sport, never will be, and really isn't in the first place. i'm not saying that bodybuilders aren't tremendous athletes becuase they certainly are... but lets be honest, it's a freakshow populated by folks who know (for the most part) about training, nutrition, diet, and exogenous hormonal administration. those who know it well and are blessed with good genetics and work ethic have the potential to be very successful (comparatively speaking).
but the general public will never appreciate those things; bodybuilders will always be looked at as freaks who are trying to make up for their small stature, limited intelligence, character flaws, etc.
and these are the same people who find it perfectly acceptable to blow your tits up to 48GGG, transfer fat from your ass to your lips, inject toxin into your face to eliminate wrinkles, etc.
my mother actually tried to make the case that breast augmentation was completely different than AAS usage when it comes to cosmetic enhancement and somehow more acceptable because of societal pressure put on women to confirm to a certain standard. this despite seeing the real sports special and the limited empirical medical evidence of negative health consequences from AAS usage in healthy adult males.
this is the perception we are faced with, and i don't think it will ever change.
