Super sad. And I was actually trying to grab more info on this as well. Doug actually won the overall at one of my first shows. Large human being and an overall nice guy. Would chat with him every Saturday at golds as he was a 5am guy.
So true. It takes two seconds to check in on someone you know in this sport. In men you will usually never know. That's the second one that I heard today.
I received an email from the business email addresss of a fellow competitor and my former chiropractor that he had passed away. I made some inquiries and as it turned out, he committed suicide.
It just goes to show you never can tell...he was always in a good mood, had a THRIVING business and a beautiful daughter. He went through a pretty rough divorce a year or two back, and I can only assume that affected him more than he let on.
I guess the moral is, in this month of "Men's Mental Health Awareness", we really need to be more aware. Reach out to your friends and acquaintances and just let them know that they're being thought about and that someone cares for them.
What an incredibly saddening morning.
I heard some rumors that he was depressed and was looking for help
Is it suicide?
^^^36 is waaay too young ..the whole thing is soo immensely sadI made some inquiries and as it turned out, he committed suicide.
^^^just to preface; ..i like/respect you brother ..so i'm not heckling/or dissecting your post ..i KNOW what you meant & it's goodSo true. It takes two seconds to check in on someone you know in this sport. In men you will usually never know.
So sad to hear. RIP.
It was a figure of speech. Check in on someone was the point. But you already knew that.^^^36 is waaay too young ..the whole thing is soo immensely sad
..the suicide ..........just makes it so much more sad
..could it have been prevented? ..it's hard to say
rest now brother!!
^^^just to preface; ..i like/respect you brother ..so i'm not heckling/or dissecting your post ..i KNOW what you meant & it's good
buy yeah it takes more than the proverbial 2-seconds (..if only)
►2-seconds is:
- "..hey how'r you doing?"
- "..oh i'm good ..thanks"
- "..that's great!! ..ok see ya"
..it requires time & effort
(..that truthfully ..& sadly ..many of us just don't have to spare)
..bc you'r not gonna uncover THAT kind of shit with a "2-second-topical-conversation"
..it takes getting down into their world bc it's not going to get on-the-table of a casual conversation
..esp in men ..like you said ..it's hard(er) to spot
^^^even taking the time ..& putting the effort ..there is no guarantee that you'll succeed ..or that they'l even "let you in"
..sometimes they only let in the "trusted ones"
..& sometimes a complete stranger is easier to talk to
..so who's to say that YOU are even the one to save them?
↑ so this isn't a call-to-arms about doing a better ..more genuine investigation
..bc even with all that ..it's still a crap-shoot
..just reminds us how complicated human being are ..& that not everybody is having an easy-time of coping
^^^over the years i had 2 employees ..same story ..young ..doing great numbers ..& nobody was the wiser
..still resurfaces to some extent when i see these
..if i had made a better ..deeper ..effort
..could i have made a difference?
.
