what is the safest low fat fish to eat? I keep hearing tilapia is very pro inflammatory / bottom feeder etc..

I am not up to date on all this stuff, but wanted to add some fish to my diet, and keep it lower on the fat macro if possible.

is mahi mahi? or swai (spelling) clean?

Dude, I'm from the south and I eat catfish 3 times a week. I know it it more fat than most but, I'll cut other places. I'll rub mustard on it dust it with corn mill and bake it at 400 for 25 mins. Tastes like fried but baked.

Farmed Tilapia from whole foods is very good and raised on a good diet, tastes nothing like cheap asian farmed tilapia. Just be ready to pay $10 per pound.

At my costco they have wild sockeye salmon, it is very low in fat. But $15+ per lbs

I really like Mahi real well myself,,but as you say, it is pricey. I try to eat all wild caught and local if possible and I avoid most farm raised if I can.

i hear you and i did get egg whites too but imagine eating 100-140 g proteins from egg whites vs fish.

with the former you will be farting up a storm all day. fish just seems so "light" on your GI track.

So what about chicken or turkey? I mean don't get me wrong, I love fish more than anything, but the low fat, low mercury options are still more expensive than so many other protein sources that taste just as good (because honestly, does plain tuna/cod/tilapia really taste that much better?) It's not like you're getting the main benefit of fish (EFA) for the cost, or the amazing taste that comes with the fat...

I dont eat fish that much but smocked salmon is safe, or salmon from rearing : no or much less heavy metals.

I've been crushing some boiled crawfish lately.!!
Its a pain in th ass to peel enough for a full meal but a cup full added to any other meat is nice. When shrimp is in season i eat a fair bit of that but it's hard to make at home because my wife is crazy allergic to shell fish.
