Secure Server Computer People Pls!!

What would be the benifits of having a secure server for a bb website! I realize that in this day and age our current situaion is in great danger!!! Also I just bought a computer could I use that as a secure server! Would I need some software for it or something?? The computer is a:
hp pavilion 753c
2.53GHz
512MB
120Gb
G4 Ram
CD-RW
DVD-RW

I don't know what this stuff means but I hope it helps. Would this puter work as a Secure Server. If not could I upgrade or if not what would I need as I want to start rounding up these materials- Thanks dudes

Also I have heard of sercure off shore servers! Would this be a good idea? I have been looking at one in the bahamas that is 249 a month. I can post more info about it if someone needs it

A decent price for a virtual host with unlimited bandwidth is $9.95 a month. Add another $9.95 for a "secured" server (https://) . I'm not sure why you feel you need a secure server unless you're gonna be selling things (taking credit card info).

Hey excel your back!!! Hope everything is well for you! Well I dunno if I will be selling anything but I would like to keep everyone that would belong to the board as safe as possible!! Anything worth doing is worth doing right!!! So is anything with http:// in fromt of it does that mean its secure?

Thnx for asking about me - when I was away I was only able to eat 5-6 times a day and lost 5 lbs

"http://" is a regular web site, "https://" is secure (the difference is the "s" in title). Note: only enter credit card info online when your on a page that begins with https. If you want to limit who visits your site, you could require a username and password. You don't need a secure site to do that. In fact (I don't know this for sure), you could be compromising the security by using it that way - probably not but would just be a waste of money. You could keep the database of username and passwords on the secure server.

I am sure a good hacker could hack past the username screen couldn't they? anyway if its only a few more dollars why not! Also would a site like this be illegal in the us? Also lets say it was in the bahamas then any profit could go into an offshore accoiunt and I woudln't have to pay taxes would I? Also certain Agency's of the gov wouldn't have any bizz with the site? Just a few thoughts as I dunno much about this stuff if you cannot tell

A secure server recieves/sends encrypted info. If a hacker gets to your server, it won't be via the website/browser. They shouldn't be able to read/decipher encrypted info - but they can still wreek havoc on your web site.

I'm no tax expert, but if you live in the US, have money earned from outside the US, you still need to pay taxes on it
