Shoulder replacement surgery and TRT

Machines/cables/ dumbbells instead?
Yes, if they feel good. I guarantee you plenty here haven’t even barbell pressed in years.

Why would you suddenly do lots of pushups? Lol

I have trouble connecting with my chest with most exercises, but for some reason, push ups throughout the day hit it like nothing else.🤷‍♂️🤣

I’m keeping an eye on this thread as well.
As far as training shoulders/ chest, if we take out flat and incline barbell presses, how do you guys suggest we train? Machines/cables/ dumbbells instead? Lots of push ups?

We ? Your wife is having shoulder problems also?

Whats wrong with db’s and machines?

More time researching training and less about drugs 😎

“We” as in “we people who exercise with shoulder issues”, not a royal we. 🤣

And absolutely nothing wrong with dBs or machines- just asking to learn more. 👍👍👍👍

Not to derail the thread to much but what does your chest workout look like ?

Nothing wrong with pushups. Nick walker does them lol

Time and a place though
Doing them throughout the day though might be to much stress on your shoulders

No worries. Lately, to bring them up I’ve moved my chest exercises to the start of my workout sessions- I do whole body 3 times a week.

Usually 2 exercises for chest, 3 sets each to 1RMR, with moderate weight. I rest about 90 seconds in between sets.

Usually an incline press, be it either DBs, machine or Barbell, followed by cable crossovers. I rarely flat bench.

I usually do a variety of pushups as part of a superset with 3-4 sets of DB arm curls, alt supinated curls, preacher curls or EZ bar curls (I try to swap these every so often , my arms are my worst feature, I’m all legs). I hit triceps afterwards separately.

Obviously warm your shoulders up before the workout. Bands ect
Start the workout with crossover ssw pushups

When i was released to workout by my Dr. after my replacement i had no restrictions on lifting and could do any movement and weight. May depend on the type of replacement, that was done. The Dr had done the surgery on many completive athletes such as those in the martial arts that were competing again in less then a year. But no BBer's that i know of.
One of my buddies at the gym who was 69 had both his shoulders done in less then a year. And with using gear he got from a TRT clinic in Cali got in shape to where he could easily have done very well in local shows against guys much younger in the classic division, within a year of starting training again after the last replacement. And not been embarrassed in masters shows at a higher level. He looked better then most all of the 20 year olds at the gyms i go to . But there are not many mass monsters. But he is a tough old bird. 7 knee surgeries on the one knee from his soccer days, 4 on the other knee, elbow, other shoulder surgeries in life, spine surgery etc.

My friend had a full Titaniumhe hammered shoulder replacement 5 weeks ago.

He was a competitive bodybuilder since his late teens. He completed for 25 yrs.and took some toll on his shoulders

The day after surgery he dosed 157/500 rather high and reported no pain. Perhaps his tolerance is higher than most.

One incision from collar bone to armpit was required only.

Rehab has begun and he has asked his doctor to increase Rehab intensity.

I fully expect his to continue working out but likely not compete again as shoulder number 2 has to be replaced this year.

Here is his recent X-ray

… maybe you were doing too many barbell movements in the gym previously. Many guys don’t connect with chest well on them (not saying all)

Personally, I prefer pressing movements that converge

Grab a rig and rock on

Meadows was big on stretch push ups, great exercise, especially once your chest is pumped

Is that a reverse shoulder replacement? Looks like it to me.

I do not know, sorry. He didn't explain this part to me.
Somebody more experienced could chime in please.

Looks like a reverse. The ortho i saw last year said no restrictions with that procedure as far as movement that can be done in the gym in the future. Just would no longer be able to put my hand behind my back. And after 6 weeks he turns a person loose to start their journey back.

So my strength is coming back quick as I thought it would. Here the picture I have from a before to after. Forgot to post this but my replacement is not your metal on metal replacement. It is metal to hard plastic, as I forgot what the doctor told me what the glenoid material is. Tell me what you guys thing of this version of replacement.
