What have you found to work better for making long term gains, changing workouts frequently ala muscle confusion or basicallly sticking with the same workout program (with maybe an occasional tweak) long term for making gains? There seems to be successful examples from both camps. I'm wondering if changing routines is do more to mental boredom than anything physical.

i think it's a boredom thing more than a physiologic response to change. a muscle contracts under resistance and doesen't know what exercise you're doing. for example your arms don't know if you're doing barbell curls or concentration curls. it's not going to stop contracting under resistance to either one. all in all it's sometimes a refreshing change mentally to switch it up.

lots of people say if it aent broke dont fix it. So if ur gettin great results from ur program stay with it till u need to. Now if ur noticing ur results r decreasing id tweak ur program a lil bit here and there and see if tha works. And if ya still see no change id try a new wworkout and always make sure to include ur big compound excerises no matter weut ur goal is.
