Just trying to figure out this stuff out.........????

Will this stuff cause my keto diet to go haywire or not because this stuff is the best thing since sliced bread, i mean it tastes exactly if not better than sugar and supposedly for the most part is not absorbed by the small intestines.

I can't seam to find a whole lot of scientific data or much on this board using the search function so maybe some of you have some personal experiences??

This is what i found on Wiki..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_alcohol

I just cant imagine something tasting this good being good for ya..........lol!!

I'm kinda confused if splenda, sweet n low, aspertime, are all sugar alcohols?

Thanks in advance!

Sugar Alcohols are not absorbed into the blood stream and do not impact blood glucose levels. The problem is that because they are not absorbed they head to the large intestine/colon and in significant quantities will cause significant atomic shitz.
Splenda, Sween-n-Low & NutraSweet are not sugar alcohols.

Thank you for the reply..........so why in gods name are these companies putting our kids through the nightmare of rotten teeth, hyperactivity, and other sugar related problems when they could just have a little diarrhea !!

I had a personal training client that was a choc-aholic. I was trying to convert her to dark chocolate as the lesser of two evils. Anywhoo, she decided to try sugar-free chocolate instead. After three days of rampant diarrhea she confessed that she didn't have 2 or 3 pieces - she had two bags of the stuff. Needless to say it cured her chocolate addiction...

I know man its sad. Everything for kids it seems is loaded with sugar. I just love the cereal commercials. "wake up to a good healthy breakfast" what misleading bullshit.

LMFAO ............who needs lasix when you got that!!

one more quick question..........was reading my LBA bottle here and i see "sugar esters" how and where do they fit in?

That's a good question for Phil.

I am a type 1 diabetic and sugar alcohol affects my blood sugar in high quantities. If you have under 5 grams then it is considered as free food or shouldn't cause your body to produce insulin.

Just be careful about the total carbs since some foods have natural sugar as well.

Thanks david.............Still wondering about the sugar esters in my LBA's???

Like someone said contact Phil...or your could contact Dante with True Protein depending on what brand you got. I imagine the "sugar esters" your referring to are the same though.

on another note...

For those of us who are clean and sober...

sugar alcohol can create alcohol cravings, as the alcohol is the same as what's found in liquor, just in a very small dose. Be careful with any gums that have a "flavor center" as well, it's most likely alcohol.

"Sugar alcohols are neither sugars nor alcohols. They are carbohydrates with a chemical structure that partially resembles sugar and partially resembles alcohol, but they don’t contain ethanol as alcoholic beverages do."

when my sobriety is at stake, anything that resembles alcohol, even "partially", I stay away from.

I advise others who are in the program to do the same. WHY risk it?

Although if you dont have an "issue" with alcohol, I fully understand why you dont understand. Novacaine at the dentist gives me cocaine cravings. Its no big deal, and you either know what I mean, or you dont.

i used to have an alcohol problem and i stand by my point

"Sugar alcohols are completely different than sugar and alcohol that most people know. In fact, sugar alcohols are not sugars and they do not contain alcohol."

"I am 52 days sober today and I have things with sugar alcohol in them all the time. It doesn't trigger me in any way at all. Phone calls with my Mom... how that's another story!

Suga"

maybe you get a placebo effect simply because you think its alcohol, but there is no reason that it could cause relapse...it does not contain alcohol

sort of like i cant use corticosteroids instead of anabolic steroids

edit:if this came off as rude i apologize, hard to get the right tone across online

Listen...no one who "used to have an alcohol problem" could possibly know what I mean. My original post, that sugar alcohol can cause alcohol cravings, I stand by because IT DOES FOR ME.

You can post a zillion links on this, and I dont give a rats ass what the fuck they say. And..... I dont give a fuck if I come across as rude, because when some twit with 4 posts challenges me about my post, that anyone who is clean and sober should stay away from sugar alcohol, I'll speak up.

I have over 6 years away from any substance. And that didnt happen with working at it, and recognizing what causes cravings. If one member here is part of the fellowship, and can use my advice to help stay sober, then thats what it's all about.

all artificial sweetners will affect your blood sugar to some extent, depending on the amount. the only thing that will not is stevia.

this is from the american diabetes association.

Reduced Calorie Sweeteners – Sugar Alcohols

Sugar alcohols are one type of reduced-calorie sweetener and are used in sugar-free candies, chewing gum, and desserts. They provide about half the calories of sugars and other carbohydrates. Isomalt, maltitol, mannitol, sorbitol, and xylitol are examples of sugar alcohols. Even though they are called sugar alcohols, they do not contain alcohol. Sometimes sugar alcohols can cause diarrhea, especially in children. Many people think that foods with sugar alcohols are “free foods.” This is not true!

Tips for Carb Counting and Sugar Alcohols

Sugar alcohols don’t raise blood glucose as much as the same amount of other carbohydrates. To figure out the amount of other carbohydrate you should count for a food with sugar alcohols, follow these tips:

Subtract half of the sugar alcohol grams from the total carbohydrate

Count the remaining grams

For Example:

Serving Size: 1 bar

Total carbohydrate 15 grams -- Sugar alcohol 6 grams

One bar counts as 12 grams carbohydrate (15 – 3 = 12)
