Last Friday I had surgery to replace a severely herniated C6-7 disc. The Dr. who is supposedly one of the best in the USA, removed the disc and fragments and replaced it with an artificial disc. Check it out at www.prestigedisc.com
I woke up in the recovery room and knew immediately that the pain was gone. All I could do was smile with happiness.
Yesterday, I slept through the night - 1st time in months. I walked 1/2 mile on Monday, and yesterday I walked a mile. It kicked my ass, I slept 2 hours afterwards.
I've been catching up on all the movies I have missed at the cinema, No Country for Old Men, Cloverfield, There Will Be Blood, The Mist, Before the Devil Know's You are Dead, and more.
I will go back to my family at the Gym this Monday. I will start my rehab the following Monday. I have lost 25lbs (not the kind I wanted) and have significant atrophy in my affected arm. I have a small amount of residual nerve damage, but should be able to overcome it with time, patience & persistence.
I look forward to the challenges ahead of me...

Awesome

I feel for you man. I have been suppering off and on with a herniated c5-c6 affecting my right arm. Things are good right now but I too will be having surgery down the road. It's good to hear that the relief is immediate.
good luck with your rehab..

Knuck,
If you are looking at surgery, please go to that web page and click on the "Clinical Research" link. You will be amazed at the difference in outcome vs. Allograft Fusion.
Best thoughts and prayers to you for your health.

hey good for you. I like the way you add that your ready and willing for the challenge. That is so cool because it is the opposite so many times. I am fighting a pec injury now and i havent had surgery so i know what it is like to get hurt. I like so many people need to remember the grace that falls by overcoming our obstacles. I am always reminded that it is character building. Great movies too. Best wishes

Bro, Glad you had such a positive experience with your surgery. I have to have the same surgery for my L4-L5 L5-S1 and have been waiting several years for artifical disk replacement. Can you send me a PM with your doctors name? I have been waiting to hear of a renowned doctor using artifical discs...

Thanks,
Mike

MHP,
I might be wrong, but I think the appliance that he used is specific for cervical disc replacement. The MD that I went to is supposed to be a wizzard at this proceedure. When I go back for my follow-up visit in 2 more weeks, I will specifically ask him if he does Lumbar disc replacement.
I am going to do a search on lumbar disc replacement and see what I can find...

Glad to hear things are going well Quad-Smack. Thanks for the link.

Some of the things they are doing in medicine these days just amazes me. Glad you had a great outcome!
