Taking week off gym may increase progress

Hey is it true takng week off every 8 to 12 weeks will prevent overtraing and recover cns. Seems itgood idea to cntinue progress
 
yes taking time off from the gym will deff. help prevent overtraining i personaly dont know if it must be every 8-12 weeks. i do it bassd on how i feal. ill start seeing little sings showing up..

You can also just deload everything but still go to keep up the routine.
 
i know guys that do this every month. seems to be working great for them.

sorry to interrupt the thread but i was wondering about a time frame for results. im about 3 1/2 wks into a test e only cycle. not alot of strength/mass gains but better pumps. i keep hearing about this wk 4-5 burst from test e. any thoughts?

Big A has given us his best honest word. Like us, the man is allowed to be wrong, but his muscles don't look too wrong, so I'm believing him, at lest approximately anyway...

In his beginners thread, Big A has advised a workout schedule of 1 hardcore workout per week with 1 week per month taken off for general recoup.

personally, I figure that when YOU FEEL that your muscles are ready for another beating, fight's on! I other words, if you are ready to go again at 3 days or 5 days after last workout, go ahead & hitter again before atropgy starts robbing gains.

As to the 1 week off every month, I remember reading the headliner for some study done back in the 80s or 90 saying that atrophy starts 24hrs after last workout. I doubt that, but I personally figure that any break extending longer than 48-72 hours after you are physically ready to workout again will likely cost some atrophy.

Put differently, I agree at least 50% with Big As' 25% time off protocol.

1-3 workouts per week with a little extra rest (48-72 hours over schedule) is good...

Also, as I have read, you are really training your nervous system. I think some judicial time off might also help prevent tendon and ligament injury.
 
1 to 2 weeks rest works wonders for recovery, and I get better gains when i start back, lose that exhausted feeling, and feel more motivated.
 
I do this about 2-3 times a year. I recently took a vacation and hit the gym for very light workouts twice in the begining and then proceeded to relax for about 8 days. Not only was I not training but I was eating! Nothing too rediculus but definetly a surplus with some treats that really do not get consumed regularly.

Once I returned home I started Big A's workout for beginers and let me tell ya the gains are coming easy. I know that it wont last for ever but it really is amazing what the body can do when coming from a state of total recuperation.
 
its nice to take some time off from the working out as the body needs some time off to recover and also you need some time mentally away from the rigorous dieting and workout regimen
 
I decided to rest as well after my show. I need it. So I am resting up at least this week. Phil kept bugging me and I thought, no I will be fine. But I wasnt. I knew I needed to rest. So after a little shoulder tweak scare I said "Ok, Time to listen to people." Homon warned as well. I am many things but Thick Headed seems to be a good description at times.
