I just saw on CNN that they are going to release the list of athletes names from all the labs and pharmacies that got busted. The report said there are some big names on the list. Why wouldnt this go under doctor patient confidentiality or HIPPA laws? Seems like they are just lookin to ruin careers or ppls lives..

Sources familiar with the latest developments in the George Mitchell steroids investigation said Friday that the report will name many players, including some big names and some names that have not surfaced to date.

In a conference call Friday with all 30 teams, Tom Carlucci of the San Francisco-based law firm Foley & Lardner advised them on the status of Mitchell's probe into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball.

One source said, "This is going to be enormous ... it's going to be a huge story when these names come out."

The former U.S. Senate Majority Leader's report is expected to be released between Oct. 31 and the end of the year.

MLB vice president Rob Manfred said that Carlucci has no idea what information is in the report.

"No one except Senator Mitchell's people know for sure whether there's going to be names named and how many names are involved and who those names are," Manfred said Friday.

Albany County District Attorney David Soares, whose own investigation aimed to shut down a major supply line of illegal prescription drugs and "was never about cleaning up sports," has met with representatives from the Mitchell Commission.

The New York Times reported last month that the names of 10 more baseball players turned up on a list of clients at the Florida pharmacy at the center of Soares' investigation into illegal steroid sales.

Heather Orth, a spokeswoman for Soares, said Thursday she was not sure exactly what information had been turned over to Major League Baseball but said the DA's office has not given the league a list of players.

This list will be highly scrutinized long before it hits the news stands. The major league stands to lose a lot of money if this happens. It is all about the money guys! Legality has very little to do with this. They will let a few fall just to satisfy the media and the do gooders so they can say they did something about this problem.

doctor patient confidentiality... are you serious? These aren't doctors and their patients. They will LOVE nailing these big names in public. What better way to scare the shit out of everyone by parading these people down the street as an example? They can't possibly go after everybody so they will go after big names first.

Baseball isn't going to lose money becasue of this. Come on, there has been so much bad publicity for baseball because of steroids and it hasn't done any harm yet. The home run record just got broken and the reason no one wanted him to do it was because he is a dick and the steroids was just an excuse to hate someone that was an arrogant asshole. Maybe people will realize that so many people are doing aas and it isn't ruining lives that they will get use to the fact that it is so wide spread and stop worrying about it.

also, lets say some big names get listed. they can say "I never ordered that! Someone must have ordered that to tarnish my name and cause me trouble" and totally deny that they ordered it.

I remember a book about Revenge said to order stuff that was unsavory and have it delivered to your enemy then to alert the press to what they were receiving. The players cold just say that is what is happening here. Theres no real proof thet they ordered it and can deny the heck out of it.

Hopefully you are right. It is entirely possible that people will just get so sick of hearing about steroids that they start changing the channel. Then it won't be news anymore and they'll brush it aside. Remember when AIDS was news? And what ever happened to that little homeless problem? It's interesting that I don't have any clue what the government is doing about the national debt yet I know that Brittany Spears has been awarded one supervised night of custody a week. Is the media trying to turn us into fucking morons?

My optimistic side is hoping that once this "enormous list" comes out, it will be so many, that the country will be forced to begin to look at this not as a drug problem, but rather that many Americans are self-medicating so that they can live richer, fuller lives. Then they just might give people a place to go that is healthy, clean, and most importantly, legal.

My pessimistic side is telling me that we are just in for months and months of news story after news story of how this player or that player has been fingered in this "scandal". And nothing will be done and the war in Iraq will continue to worsen as the public turns their attention to some ball players who took artificial hormones and drug-addicted pop-singers fighting for custody of their children.

Interesting idea there:
send orders to members of LE and the courts. Make sure they are caught and convicted for their crimes. If nothing else it would be damn funny..

That statement sums it up OTH........Meanwhile a Senator in Alaska ( who is now under federal indictment for gettign illegal kickbacks for havign work done on his home) can get a bill passed in Washington appointing $200M in FEDERAL FUNDS to build a fucking bridge in alaska connecting an island inhabited by 50 fucking people to the mainland of alaska...That story should get headline news as to how our politicainas are spending our taxes.....its a travesty....while soliders in Iraq die without armour we are spending money a bridge for 50 fucking people....

What's interesting about this survey is that we already knew this. it took someone a survey to get to the truth about aas use across the board!
