Growing up as a kid, it was toys like these that made me want to bodybuild. Kids this day and age dont have toys like kids from my generation had. We had bodybuilders as action figures. Who here doesnt remember he-man. He could be a top pro right now looking like that. Look at the lat spread, and quad devolpment on heman. he has to be 270 there shredded!

When i go to wal-mart every once and a while I pass through the toy section to see what kids have today to play with. So pathetic. I had he-man, gi-joe, transformers, voltron, thundercats...hoooooooooo.

Anwyay tell me heman isnt still a mans toy. This is the toy all little boys should be playing with.

I used to fantasize looking like He-Man when I was growing up. And like Arnold in Comando.

I think he would do well if he decided to compete

OK I'm tired lets go to bed

Big A seeing Arnold in Commando I think is one of my first motivators as well. I still remember the first time I saw him in it, the opening scene where he is carrying the log over his shoulder lol...I remember where I was sitting in our living room and everything. I was in first grade, started spiking my hair like him, got dark green henley style shirts like he wore etc lol.

Somebody told me he took medicine that he "wasnt supposed to take" and that helped him get big...so being the easily influenced first grader I started taking cold medicine every day because I wasnt sick thus I "wasnt supposed to take it" LOL. I didnt overdose or anything! Stupid kids.

I finally figured out what that medicine was, as well as realizing I am supposed to take it! :D

Yea, same here. I idolized those super heros and their strength. All i wanted to do from a young age was be big and strong.

Arnold was definitely one of my inspirations, Conan was one of my favorites. I thought one day I could look like that.

Now if I could only master that jumping over tall buildings in a single bound thing!!!!! LOL:p

"Let off some steam Bennet"
"Remember when I said I'd kill you last?........ I lied" Classic!:D lol

I too was a big fan of he-man, transformer, etc. Go back and watch the cartoon as an adult. Probably the most homo erotic cartoon ever made. Of course as a kid you dont realize.

For me it was Superman, he was everything to me as a kid and wanted nothing more than to be built like him and do the things only he could do...

But it wasn't until I saw this shot of Rich Gaspari did I really get the fever to get bigger...

I use to let GI-Joe and The Six Million Dollar Man fight. But of course Austin had the electronic arm and eye sight so it was a tough battle.lol:D

For me, it was seeing Steve Reeves in those old movies... I wanted to look that that and it put me on the road to hitting the weights. Damn! I just gave away my age :D Compared to the guys today... he looks almost small now. RIP Steve.

I was a huge he-man and thundercats fan as well.
I think in the eighties in general everything was bigger, so they started making cartoon and toy figures with huge muscles.
I grew up being surrounded by bodybuilding since my dad was into it in the late 60's and on.
I remember when I could first start reading, I used to check out my dad's muscle & fitness mags.
I particularly recall the 1981 edition that had the 1980 Mr. O "controversial" report.
I was so warped that other kid's dads that DIDN'T have 18 inch arms were pathetic.

"I HAVE THE POWERRRRRRRRRR"

(he also had the cows, check out those massive Matarazzo calves on that action figure!)

I was motivated to lift, because of everyone telling me I was skinny, and I got tired of sand be kicked in my face(refer to old Charles Atlas ads.)

This is what triggered my life long love of BB.
I remember the first time I saw this photo...I was absolutely blown away. Ya see as a skinny little ninth grader, the thought that a human could even get this big gave me the hope and motivation to lift weights. I knew that if I could look half as big as this guy in the photo Id be happy. This used to be on the cover of his book "Education of a bodybuilder" I bought that book and took it with me to every workout...Then I discovered "Muscle and fitness" Mag then around 82-83 they came out with FLEX. the internet wasn't around in them days so it would be another 20 years before I took my first cycle. This photo still boggles my mind....LOL

great thread

for me it was comic books, mostly the x-men. of course every character had an impressive build, but colossus just blew me away:

he was massive, incredibly strong, and could turn to steel. how cool is that?

i remember looking at him as an 8 year old kid and wondering if it was possible to even look like that, not understanding the muslcular system and never being exposed to bodybuilding.

then, when i was 10 i saw the terminator. that first scene when arnold "lands" in 1984 and walks to look over LA just blew me away.

eh, the colossus pics was supposed to go in a different spot, but you get the idea.
