I tore my left bicep last Wednesday. The outer head now has a two inch gap from the elbow , no bruising. My ortho say he would not advise surgery because he does not think it will be noticeable(it is to me).Just need some advice , I only have about a 14 day window on the surgery before scar tissue starts to form. Also I only know what it looks like relaxed not flexed (the two inch gap) , will it be worse in the flexed position.Any help would be appreciated.

Can I ask how you tore it?

(If i hear another "helping my buddy move furniture" story again Im never helping anyone move a couch or big TV again)

get another opinion and tell him to fix it. your the 1 paying the money to have it done .u ned to go now

If you tore it clean of the radial (which is what I am assuming) you NEED surgery.
Without it you will never screw again (I mean with a screwdriver).
You need an MRI and a sports medicine doc to look at it ASAP!
DO NOT WASTE TIME!

GET IT FIXED!!! AND FAST! You will need surgery to properly repair this. Go and get it done or you can kiss BBing goodbye, amongst other things!!

Bro, call every orthopedic doctor in your area until you find someone. If you have good insurance, you should have no problem. If you don't have insurance and have to pay out of pocket, and you have the cash, then tell every doc you talk to that and believe it or not, you will receive a discounted price because the way insurance companies reimburse docs is might be less for them. I am almost concerned that to much time has passed and this may become difficult but if you find someone than have it asap. Come up with every lie in the book about you need 2 strong arms for work purposes or you want to pick up your babies with both hands but say anything cause you might need a good excuse cause of the time that has already gone by. Good Luck!

ABSOLUTELY GET IT FIXED.

I TORE MINE IN COLLEGE FIGHTING AFTER THE BAR CLOSED. IT ISN'T JUST THE LOOK OF IT...IT'S FUNCTION. YOU'LL BE WEAKER AND IF YOU EVER GET LEAN IT WILL BE NOTICABLE....GET ANOTHER ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON.

A TEACHER FRIEND OF MINE TORE HIS A YEAR AGO MOVING A HEAVY FILE CABINET...SORT OF THE SAME THING DOGGCRAP JUST MENTIONED.

ANOTHER FRIEND THAT SHOOTS PISTOLS COMPETATIVELY WITH MY DAD IS PISSED THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE HIS FIXED...HE IS A DOCTOR AND WAS OF THE OPINION YOUR ORTHO WAS! HIS ARM NOW FATIQUES MUCH MORE QUICKLY WHEN HE'S HOLDING UP THE PISTOL SHOOTING. HE FEELS IT AT THE END OF THE DAY.

IF YOU ARE A LIFTER....AND I ASSUME YOU ARE....GET THAT SHIT FIXED.

THE FIRST DOC I WENT TO TRIED TO CONVINCE ME TO PUT IT IN A SLING AND IT WOULD BE OKAY....HE FOLLOWED THAT COMMENT UP WITH ...OH YOU'LL HAVE A SLIGHT DEFORMITY AND A 20-30% STRENGTH LOSS!

SCREW THAT! I DROVE AN HOUR AND A HALF ...WENT TO THE ER...AND LUCKED OUT WITH AN ORTHO WHO USED TO BE THE TEAM DOC FOR THE CHARGERS.

SO GLAD I HAVE A NORMAL ARM.

i have to agree with everyone else...get it fixed. i tore the long head of my right one from the origin (the shoulder down...opposite of yours). the doc told me the same thing, he said it wouldnt be worth it. i was 19 at the time...and ive had to live with this damn thing ever since. even if it takes you an entire year to get back to 100% (which it wont) it would be worth it.

i tore mine last Feb.
it still is not 100% and I no longer look symetrical, but better than a deformed arm. Doc told me that i was doing good by being back at over 90%.
Still am scared of doing it again though!

(If i hear another "helping my buddy move furniture" story again Im never helping anyone move a couch or big TV again)

LOL!

But bumping this for an answer as to how you tore it!

Tell ortho to fix it immedietly. I have torn a pectorial and a tricep. I had the surgery on the tricep. Even after a surgery it is never going to be 100% but it is going to be much better than no surgery. When I say immedietly I mean tomorrow morning if you can't get into an emergency room tonight. Do not go to work tomorrow get this fixed. It is that critical to get it done asap. You don't need to ask, lie, or beg. Tell them to operate insurance or not. They will send you a bill.

TORN DISTAL BI...

GET THE SURGERY!!! I TORE MINE A COUPLE YEARS AGO SAME WAY JETHRO TULL DID.. I GOT THE SURGERY AND IT WAS ABOUT A FULL YEAR TILL I WAS 100%. NOW I LOOK BACK THE SURGERY WAS ONE OF THE SMARTEST THINGS I DID.. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BI KNOW AND IT LOOKS THICKER THAN MY NON SURGICAL BI.. GOOD LUCK AND GET IT FIXED!!!!!

Why do some doctors try to avoid this operation. From what
I've heard from friends and my brother who tore his bicep,
that most of these surgeons will try to talk you out of this
operation. One doctor told my brother it was bruised and
swollin, can you believe it . big freakin balled up knot at the
top of his arm. i'm not the brightest lamp in the room but I
could even tell you what the hell it was. Who the hell wants
to walk around looking like that. Plus can't even use it. I told
him to go back and tell the idiot to either fix it or cut
the damn thing off.

MY DOC THAT REPAIRED MY ARM TOLD ME A DISTAL TEAR(TEAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BI) SHOULD ALLWAYS BE REPAIRED, A TEAR AT THE TOP NEAR THE SHOULDER(NOT SURE OF TECNICAL NAME)HE SAID IT'S A WAIST OF TIME TO DO THE SURGERY. MY DOC IS A YOUND DUDE ABOUT 36 AND A POWERLIFTER SO HE IS PRETTY IN TUNE WITH WHAT WE NEED AND DO....

I tore it trying to open a garage door that was stuck. Both arms were straight with palms up and I pulled with medium force.I believe the biggest factor was the temp,it was 20 degrees.

Absolutley fix it bro! the doctor is only thinking about NORMAL use of an arm, and NORMAL appearance of an arm. that's what they are trained to look at. heavy lifting and BBing require everything to be in tip top shape, so get that fucker fixed. Go to a sports ortho....
