Not training for a show or anything, but I'm trying to get as lean as possible (basically doing a show in my head). I'm pretty close to where I want to be as far as leanness - if I had to guess, I'd say I was 4-5 weeks out. How should I be training when muscle retention is the main goal? Do you guys do lots of different exercises per body part in the 10-12 rep range? Or just focus on main lifts? How about heavy, low-rep work?

u want to minimize training volume and do heavy, basic lifts. Just do 2 or 3 heavy working sets per body part and call it a day. The leaner you are, the smaller your muscle glycogen stores. You have to minimize your volume to keep your workouts effective and stay away from overtraining.

X2 near perfect advice in my opinion.
remember to let time and diet do most of the work.

That's what I was leaning towards (no pun!). So all that superset, giant set, 5-6 exercises per body part, is just BS?
 
dont go to heavy there is no piont when your calories are reduced. when i say heavy i mean whats heavy for you so i would think anything below 8 reps would be too heavy..

i like the advice i would do 3-4 exercies and 1-2 working sets.
