YouTube - 5 plate squat for 10.AVI

No belt. I own one, but it collects a lot of dust. Single ply knee sleeves feel GREAT. Good support with more ROM than wraps. Weight in there is down, so I'm around 265. Altered diet a bit this week, so hopefully I get a bit stronger.

I'd like to compete in the late summer/early fall. Don't know what I'm ready for though. Just trying to gain muscle and get stronger now.

I love to see sets like that.....strong like bull Dave! You keep pushing when most would have stopped at 5 reps.

BTW...solid set of calves you got on them legs!

Awesome.

Can't wait to see you compete this year.

Nice and explosive on those reps, and deep too. Im impressed you do it with no belt. I know that if I had tried that without a belt I would end up in bed for a week!

Awesome

I NEVER wore a belt.........ever........awesome strength, form, intensity....it feels so surreal watching it like its my past........I could never do that now.......you never appreciate it until much later......good stuff Dave.

Frankly, a belt has ALWAYS felt terrible. The only exercise I can say I truly enjoy a belt is a seated BB or Smith Military Press for anything less than 10 reps. I'm doing mostly DB side raises right now because they feel good and because my pec tendon can't handle heavy presses as much. It's only been 5 months since reattachment surgery.

Thanks for the comments fellas. I hope to improve on this later in the year. 15 would be ideal! (but then you get there and want 20...)

awesome set bro

Tell me about it. I cant even dream of even squating with just 4 plates a side now after my heart attack. 3 plates is all I can handle now and probably more than I should be playing with. Like you say, its almost as if it were all just a dream what we did in the past. It doesnt seem like youre doing much at the time either because it all seems like a normal thing to be doing and you dont realize how an average person views it.

Hope that surgery heals up great for you Dave. Looks like youre just now getting into your prime!

I don't like a belt too much either...But I'm going to try using it for the seated BB and smith military to try it out again since that makes sense.

Good squats man! You're a beast Big Dave!!!:)

Hot Dayum!

Now that is squatting!

nice! great form, excellent depth.

I think no belt is good if you are used to it, however if you normally wear a belt, make sure you take a long time to get used to not wearing one. I personally had a hernia that I think may have been caused or at least aggrivated by suddenly stopping using a belt after many years of squatting with one.

Nice video, amazingly upright form.

Great Video

Great squats and great form/pace- and w/o belt blows me away. Thanks for posting as it is so motivational- I used to do 5 plates (3 reps) and it is only a dream now, as others have said, but it still fires me up to do my best when I see you cranking out rep after rep in such a smooth motion.

Best of luck in your upcoming competition season- I hope you do well.

Thats awesome. I feel the exact same way you do about the belt too,,I rarely use one.

If I would be you I would not use 3 plates. Leg extensions, leg press, on the leg press betwen sets I would not stand up, it will be las work for your hart, and I would do dip squats only body weight.

Awesome strength. Dave! I can't go heavy on squats anymore. Just leg presses.

damnit, ive got all i can do to get 3 plates twice, thanx for letting me know i suck..................

Thanks guys.

Here's a phone pic from the gym today. Weight was 268 on the gym. Thinking about beginning to diet in June for some fall shows.
