Trap Problem

My left Trap is much larger than my right trap. I was told I needed to see a chiropractor and he could help even it out. Any ideas on how I can get them to even out would be great.

It looks like you arent flexing right.....forgive me if im wrong, but your left shoulder is not on the same level as your right shoulder.... maybe its a physical defect..

totally agree

stand square on to the camera and relax both shoulders

its not a great photo to give you an answer from

it looks to me like youve got some scoliosis, your thorasic spine( through the shoulder blade area is curved towards your left, droppping your left clavicle showing more of the trap, also the right trap is i expect tighter in comparison..

i had something similar, you need to see a postural expert perhaps,

if it were me i might look at doing this:

stretch both traps multiple times per day, stretch the LEFT side of your obliques, and TFL...

strengthen the RIGHT obliques and lower traps....

thats just a basic start..... see a professional...

Scoliosis indeed. Your left trap is overdevelopped because of it constantly trying to pull the left shoulder in alignment with the right probably. Nothing you can do about it (I have it too)

same problem here bro, A friend whom is actually a family doctor told me it was a minute scoliosis problem. He suggested seeing a chiropractor and in the mean time do shoulder dislocations daily, but I never made it there as the closest to me charges out the ass.

I also had an issue with flaring shoulder blades, I personally feel this has helped both of my problems dramatically. Traps appear much closer to same size, right shoulder does not seem to be slouching hardly at all anymore, and my flaring shoulders are near non existent.

Good Luck Bro:cool:

Do you use a mixed grip on BB shrugs? You may not alternate your overhand/underhand grips.

Thanks everyone for the info.
I go wide and narrow on bb. I will try the reverse grip.

I have always thought it was a problem with my right shoulder/Trap. I had surgery on it about ten years ago. Nothing major I just had bone spurs from a football injury.

What I meant previously was: anything you do can help alleviate pains you have as a result of the scoliosis (chiro, stretching, ...) Cosmetically there is nothing you can do about it except for getting a vertebrae fusion which they will not do on you since you're curve is not severe enough (yes you can tell directly with the naked eye). Even if they would, the chance of you ever training seriously again will be low to none.

I know it's frustrating especially for people like us who are body-oriented

Wondering if there isnt some sort of problem now with the nerves that innervate that muscle and the surrounding ones. Perhaps during the surgery there was some damage done or impingement later on. Is the right side considerably weaker too? Wondering if you were to do some dumbell shrugs and compare.

I agree,,,your posture may be in question. Also use dumbells for ahwile for your shrugs.

i have three small scoliotic curves, and aftrer 15 yrs of training ive minimalised them to te point they are not really noticed by anyone, stretcht the tight muscles, innervate/strengthen the lengthened ones... its just one more thing we must overcome in our quest lol

Out of all the replies I think MAlDORF is on the right track here. My first recommendation is to go to a really good sports Physitherapist. Have them evaluate it and treat it. As for Scoliosis I seriously doubt that our panel of experts here can tell this from the pic you presented to us. SO please do not take this as gospel. If you want take a pic from the rear, standing straight up and relaxed then from the front staight up and relaxed. Post them up and let's have a look. I am willing to go with an innervation problem with some motor units not firing in the trapezius rhomboidius area. You can try dumbell shrug whee your arms are at your side in a neutral or natural grip position. This way no side is favored in the lift. Shrug straight up and do not roll your shoulders. Hold for a solid one count at the top and lower slowly, repeat these to failure, do not count reps. make sure it is heavy enough to get more than 8 reps though.

lol... i had a similar problem. after about 2 years lifting i noticed i favored my right side when bench pressing. using a bar lets you favor a side. i never had noticeable asymmetry but it could have gone that way if i continued. use dumbbells and hopefully it evens out. if not its probably a nerve issue like maldorf and oldfella said. good luck

Look at your collar bones. You right is clearly higher than your left. When you stand relaxed how do your collar bones compare?

Almost everyone in my family has it, so sure you can see it. No matter how you try you can not fake a scoliotic posture

I don't think it's scoliosis. I don't have any back pain and the only time you can tell the differance is when I flex. I will try sticking to dumbells and see if I can make the right one grow.

Thanks, everyone for all your help.

If it only show when you flex, it really does sound like a nerve issue. there are a bunch of nerves that pass through the axillary area called the brachial plexus. One of those could be damaged or impinged.
