I am looking like the most fit person around but am I? So yesterday i went for ice skating. I have not done since I was a kid. Getting balance was tough and suddenly my right leg went far forward and i felt i pulled a muscle. Really horrid day in terms of how I felt after. I realised that my flexibilility is none. My cardio probably sucks as well . Very one dimensional guy. I remember that when I was doing a lot of cardio I was never tired. Almost like I was flying above the ground. Stamina was amazing also in bedroom. Also getting older take toll. I think that as I never had any new year resolution this is time for one. How many of you feels that doing bb only is not the smartest choice?

I’m right there with you bro especially on the flexibility for me. It’s horrible and I do try to work on it but apparently I’m not doing something right lol. Squats seem to murder my already hurting knees but just putting the bar in position doesn’t work due to the inflexibility of shoulders. I’m 54 and between sore joint and flexibility just getting up off the ground is an actual effort. It’s pathetic looking lol.
Cardio wise I’m not terrible on a treadmill or stationary bike but could definitely be better.
I keep telling myself every week I’m going to make some changes maybe even do some yoga classes but it never really happens.

I would say only a handful of us are fit ( those who do MMA etc). I stay lean, stretch, do liss still am reminded how unfit I am whenever I play football with my buddies or do real HIIT (not bodybuilder type HIIT).

Sucks, but we (you, others here, i count myself in the group) chose this.
If you wanted to be fit, you would've chosen Crossfit. But you wanted to LOOK like you were fit and huge. BBing truly is an illusion.
I always kinda think its funny when I was smaller (not 290) guys would come up to me and ask if i was a marine or something. I would laugh...do you REALLY think Navy Seals and Marines look like this? Those dudes are 200lbs and can sprint for 5 minutes...they are not carrying extra mass around. Blame the movies for that terrible stereotype lol.

I also get that your goals change as you get older. Maybe you wanted to be the hulk 15 years ago and now hulking isnt a priority. THis was your wakeup call. Make the change.

Specialization is for insects.

I recognize this. When I weighed like 85-87 kg in special forces I could run 10 km within 45 minutes and stuff like that. Was really agile, very flexible. Could kick a guy my height (1.90 mtr) over his head and stuff. Now, 20+ kg of muscle heavier I can't do shit. Probably because I didn't keep up with the heavy cardio and such. I'm proud I didn't die of a heart attack every time I rolled of my now ex-girl :').

But people still think I'm fit since I'm not that big and pretty lean. Jokes on them. Or on me I guess..

Don't feel bad brotha. I was athletic all through highschool....played football, basketball, baseball, ran track.....never....not once had any serious injuries.... broken bones, sprained ankles, pulled muscles....whatever. My wife and I joined a co-ed kickball league with my buddies from the department. Our first game..... I tear a hamstring!..... playing kickball!!!....c 'mon. The whole back side of my right leg was purple.

Sucks to get older.

I'm 54. Yo-yo between mid 180's - 190's. Heaviest ever was 220's. Still surf, skateboard, hike etc. Despite all the injuries from BBing & power lifting I've managed to stay pretty flexible and maintained decent cardio through those activities outside the gym and continue to do them regularly. I'd probably limp around for days after ice skating due to the very specific muscles engaged. Sounds like you pulled a hamstring in a forced split lol. I bet you're more fit than 85-90% of the general population Tom. I'd stay off the ice though. My opinion as I've stated through multiple posts is focus on longevity, health and mental wellness as one ages.

Another thing to keep in mind. Who is stronger someone who can bench 300 but can't do a 3 chin ups. Or someone who can only bench 225 but can do 20 chin ups? I think the obvious answer is the person who can do 20 chins is the fit one but who is "stronger"?

Its always tough when first trying to get "athletic" again. When I first got on the Ice, the soreness was insane. Now I play mens league a couple times a week, have a game tonite actually. Different activities require different stretching and maintenance work. I have no issues snow boarding, playing ice hockey, football etc. I avoid snowboarding when around 230lbs just because my back leg tires out extremely quick but I have no issues doing it.

I think you would notice the same if you kept at it. Im still in my 30s so I intend on staying active so I can run around with my kids when the time comes.

In the spring, summer, and fall I do a lot more cardio because it's nice enough to ride my bike, which I enjoy. In the winter, I have to force myself to do cardio.

I absolutely feel the difference. I'm far more energetic and feel better when I'm doing plenty of cardio. It's well worth it.

I specialized in growing bigger muscles for many years as that was my main goal. Never thought of myself as an insect. But i can live with that as i have been called worse!

its important to be multi faceted, i get way diff tissue stimulus for instance from HIKING + Spiritual benefit, its healing, refreshing, gym i can go in there in a bad mood and still leave in one even if i kill myself there in theory lol, count your blessings man, i was just saying this the other day that at 35 I dont look liklle I did in my 20s, nor do I respond as quickly or as well, but compared to other people my age i look excellent so whatever :)

I’m always telling myself to do more cardio… I just never do it unless I’m trying to trim off some blubber. I don’t want to do anything crazy, but I really should be doing 2-3 miles of low impact cardio 3-4x weekly. Maybe one day I’ll actually do it and stick with it..

I never got the runners high thing. Only thing I’m thinking of while doing cardio is how much time I got left to be done with this shit!

True. I was a skinny kid but the real jacked dudes all quit during 1st phase and Hell Week. It’s really only after , way after do guys jack weights and get bigger per se
Of course there’s exceptions here and there.

Most of us don't run long enough to get a runner's high. I have a few buddies who go for some long ass runs and achieve this but I have zero desire for 1 hour+ long runs at this stage of my life

I’m not a huge guy..5’10” 215lbs right now, lowerish bf..I just focus on getting stronger and being better.

I run a lot and really focus on my stamina as well..but I’d be a goddamn liar if I said I didn’t have moments when I stand next to some of my friends and wish I had more muscle like them

That's true bro. I used to run cross country. It's a weird feeling. You're pushing and pushing and then, like a switch, you're breathing relaxes, you're treading air and thinking " I could keep running forever..." Forrest Gump style.

To you guys that run on a regular basis I tip my hat to you. The only way my breathing would relax if I was hitting my inhaler from the start
