https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ood-is-labeled-could-save-americans-millions/

The majority of Americans have no clear idea what “sell by” labels are trying to tell them. But after 40 years of letting us guess, the grocery industry has made moves to clear up the confusion.

On Wednesday, the Food Marketing Institute and the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the two largest trade groups for the grocery industry, announced that they’ve adopted standardized, voluntary regulations to clear up what product date labels mean. Where manufacturers now use any of 10 separate label phrases, ranging from “expires on” to “better if used by,” they’ll now be encouraged to use only two: “Use By” and “Best if Used By.”

Yes, but most already label if theyre NON-GMO

Yea because it's a selling point, but they sure as shit don't label it if it does have GMO's! Other countries do!

...and..The majority of Americans will probably still have no clear idea what the labels are trying to tell them
I try to use fresh meats , fish, deli asap or well before any expiration dates anyway.

Idk about you guys but it annoys the shit outta me when my room mates throw out food 1 day after the "use by" date.

Obviously there's a good cushion they put on there so they dont get sued... Like come on. Just wasteful

Yes! This is the truth. Shitting your brains out with beyond violent stomach pain for 10 days is the shits!!! 💩
This reminds me of my last tour over seas. I was there 9 months and the first meal I ate back in the states. ..made me extremely sick. I was told by many this would happen. They said it was because of the chemicals in our food. GMO being one of the many. I ended up puking out both ends for two days. [emoji90] [emoji107] [emoji85] [emoji88]

You just have to use common sense really. Obviously keep an eye on the expire dates but simple things such as appearance and smell go along way too.

Oh wow. Thank you for posting this. I will have to look at this later when I'm getting my produce.

Yep. I've been using this for years. As far as organic goes....you really only need to worry about it with fruits that won't be peeled or washed with soap. Things like oranges and potatoes and apples will be washed and peeled and all the pesticide is on the outside. wheras strawberries and leafy greens and stuff will be eaten whole

My fridge is a testament that dates on food mean very little the only hard and fast rules I go by are the "slimy chicken" rule and "3 day fish rule". LOL.
