What is necessary for cardio benefit?

Im not worried so much about burning fat or anything, just as far as cardio health what is needed? Is it actually the length of time you do something or the amount of energy expended that gives the benefit?

For years I always thought for some reason that jogging was the elite way of burning fat and fortifying your cardiovascular system until I realized how much jogging has beat up my knees and how catabolic it is towards muscle.

Would walking on an inclined treadmill or even something like rollerblading be easier on the knees and as beneficial?

I have read (in an educational text) that low intesity can be just as beneficial for health benefits 30mins at least 3 x week. I personally think doing interval cardio hitting different heart rate zones is pretty beneficial and I think it makes it a little more fun also. This can also be a great way to judge ur cardiovascular health on how quick your heart lowers into the previous (lower) zone after performing for timed duration in a higher zone

Thanks Jim. I agree with how quickly your heartrate lowering being a signal of likely decent cardio health. I could always notice the difference, especially now that I do none :D

if your worried about your knees then do either the elliptical or bike. Most physical therapist include those two machines when rehabbing a knee injury

I sprint up a 100 yard hill and then walk down and repeat.

treadmill 4 days a week, incline all the way up, 3.5-4.0 speed, 15-20 min is good for me..

3 times a week of HIIT cardio for 10-15 minutes on eleptical will do plenty for improving cardiovascular efficiency and health.

I go on the rotating stairs, or the stepper. Its a good form on cardio and easy on the knees/ankles. I only go to level 3-5 and i squeeze my butt every rep.

I want glutes like shelby.
