What's all the hype about "Resveratrol"

I've been seeing ads for this shit on various email accounts and such. Then a girlfriend of mine asks me about this out of the blue today.

Anybody have any intel on this?

Well it's kind of hype and kind of not. Calorie restricted diets have been shown to have positive effects on various health markers, one of which has to do with the expression of certain genes that control the aging process. Resveratrol has been shown to have the same effects on gene expression as the CR diets without restricting calories in vertebrates, with human testing being done now.

Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes which is why moderate red wine consumption is healthy. The problem arises in that the clinical testing dosages are sky high, the equivalent to about 1000 bottles of red wine. The stuff being sold now isn't controlled or standardized, so one has no idea what dosage they are really getting.

I do take reservatrol, but I question how effetive it is in its current form.

Good cholesterol went up. Bad went way down. Immune function was up. I take other supplements too so who knows.

Keep in mind that resveratrol has very low bioavailability. Most of it will never make it past digestion. IBE has invested in a triacetyled form that ostensibly solves this problem, but who knows.

reseveratrol is really not something bodybuilders want to take. Sirtuin activators work by making you live "less" so you can live longer. ANd of course thats only been shown in limited animal models with conflicting findings. they have been widely compared to and are somewhat similar to the starving to live longer concept.


reseveratrol downregulates androgen receptors, all hormone receptors for that matter.

though generally would say the reseveratrol does little, and most action (if any) would be in the liver. Which is why the poorly available form is probably OK, as hormone action in the liver is perhaps not all that favorable, Transdermal or other enhanced delivery likely would yield less wanted results.

Orally it is not effectively. If someone were to make it sublingual it would work much better.
