Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't it be great if a photo or video accompanied
a members post when they are making claims, casual or serious, about
their current or past condition? Don't you think that would help substantiate
or verify a claim or a statement they are making?
I just think that it adds another level of legitimacy to a persons statements,
and I for one would will feel a little bit more inclined to believe them. Maybe
I'm just too naive, or too skeptical, or I take things too seriously.
You don't see it here very much thankfully (I don't know how prevalent it is
on other boards) but when a member posts something on the order of
". . . I weigh 220 at 5'9'' and my arms are 19" cold at 10% bf and I am
running bla bla bla . . .", doesn't that just beg for a photo? It does in my
book. Or "I just squatted 505 for reps" Show me a video. I admire the
members that do do this, but they are few and far between.
And while I believe that some do not need to do this (though some still do,
thank you), as they have been there done that; their contest history and
prior posts have given these members legitimacy, it's still non the less helpful
to see the muscles that are so often referred to.
With accesses to digital cameras / phones and video recording devises
being the norm now a days, I just can't see a good reason not to post up
proof of your claims. They don't have to be great quality photos, rarely do
you see criticism regarding quality (hey, at least they are making an effort),
but I think there is a need to do something. It's the internet ya know, where
anybody and everybody can bench press 500 lbs and has an 18" arm.
I can also understand the desire for anonymity, but just crop the photo or
put on a mask. How tough can that be? Easy peasy.
And I guess one could always be deceitful; steal a photo or post a photo
of another person while claiming it's you, but what's the use in that? It
only gets you in trouble down the road if you live long enough.
Then again, perhaps, some members just don't care if other people believe
them. Fair enough. That's always an option. But please keep this in mind,
there are few places in this world besides the internet where advice is so
feely, so openly, so widely given and taken, with little or no consideration of,
or, the burden of proof. Isn't anonymity a beautiful thing?
So, I'm as guilty as the next person when it comes to doing this. And though my
best years are clearly well behind me and with much regret I don't have any
photos to show what I looked like when I make certain claims, I try, when ever
possible, to put up photos to help illustrate my point, to hopefully add legitimacy
to my posts.
I'm trying not to step on any toes or point any fingers, but how does
everybody feel about this?
Or is it just me?
And by the way, I'll say it again . . . kudos to all the members that do,
show us the money.
