did yates actually train using mentzer's principles ie the 1 sets per bodypart..

i personally think its retarded what everyone else think?
 
If you read dorian yate's blood and guts book,he did do that principle but it was one set per exercise and a few exercises per bodypart(2 i believe). Immediately following the heavy failure set, he would drop weight by 25% and then perform another set for a greater number of reps.

As far as it working, i did it back in the day and grew from it. Granted i was 17, i probably would have grown from anything the way i ate and being that young=-)

Yates used a Metzer like one set to failure Principle with a few warm up sets but Yates said himself he only trained with Metzer a few times but was never trained by him for a show. The internet wasn't even around when Yates took his first Sandow... so don't even try to say DC influenced Yates in any way...LOL

yeah, it has been so long since i read the book but Blood and Guts had the one all out set to failure with a drop set. i can't seem to remember the frequency.

I have been looking for an e-book copy of blood and guts today and haven't had any luck yet. I remember it being a great book.
 
i was in no way saying yates was doing DC lol, i was just saying is that the same concept aka low volume and going to failure and obvisouly DC uses alot more techniques.
 
if the frequency and diet are right why wouldnt it work? some dc people use a straight set to failure when starting out and get results.
 
Yates started bodybuilding at 18 years of age......1980.......Mentzer definitely influenced him in the early years. He followed Mentzer's teachings but did perform 2 warmups and 1-2 working sets......with drop sets and rest pause from time to time......Yates felt that using forced reps too often was counter productive.

Mentzer supervised a couple of his workouts @ Gold's Venice, in between his 92 and 93 Olympia victories. I think Yates was 242lbs in 92 and closer to 257in 93.
