I've always thought Fankhauser had an underwhelming physique. If your calves are your only stand-out body part, it's a major problem. For one, calves are known to be difficult to alter in size, which suggests that Fankhouser was born with pretty damn big calves. You might think, so what, they're still impressive. However, think how many totally out of shape folks have massive calves. If someone has massive arms, generally it means they put in some serious work to get them that way. The same can hardly be said for calves. As a result, big calves don't make me say "wow." They simply make me say, "that guy's calves are big."
Also, I don't think a bodybuilder should have calves much bigger than 20". There is something ungainly about large calves. In fact, a person with giant calves, I find, is generally less athletic than a person with more modest ones. With the exception of soccer players, most explosive athletes have small to modest sized calves.
You must have small calves.
