I don't know, but it seems the closer i get to 50, the more nostalgic i become. Some of the talk on old school supplements, has really gotten me to that era again in my mind. 80s stuff i was still too young to use, although my dad would make my brother and myself shakes with weider protein in it (the coffee can looking stuff, with his crossed arm pose..well Robby's but you know what i mean). So here are a few commercials i remember quite well....please share those memories, ads, commercials, etc. I know this topic isn't exactly new, but there's nothing wrong with re-visting your roots of sorts.

😂 these are awesome. The Weider and Gespari commercial had me rolling. I wish I could find a pair of those work out gloves

Weider Dynamic Muscle Builder.
You had to use a can opener to open it and a blender
to mix it. I remember choking it down it was so thick.
I went through a can/week.

Metabolol

Liver tablets and free form Amino Acid capsules from Universal Nutrition.
I would take them by the handful and then burp powder. Would freak out
my training partners:)

12lbs in 3 weeks of quality muscle. I’m loving these
Don´t forget Ronnie saying "my body fat was 2% at 260 lbs". I confess to falling for "Cyberbollocks-genics" when I was in university, "you can put on 20 lbs of muscle in 60 days, I know cause I did it" no you didn´t Franco, and that 72 page advanced systems training manual can only be described as the "Overtrainig Bible" I was 18 / 19 and had to quit my twice a week martial arts class because I couldn´t handle it, those fucking pre-exhaustion triple drop sets before the compound movement were brutal, I was crawling to university instead of walking :) those before / after pics had suckers like me and my room mate spending what little cash we had on that crap.

original met-rx was legit. i didnt gain 12lbs of muscle in 3 weeks but it was a solid product in a time when nearly everything else was a complete waste of money

I have to second this. Back in 1991-1992, the original Met-Rx, that came in the two canisters of the Base and the Plus, was the best protein powder/meal replacement I ever used. Whether that was because of the high amount of micellar casein or some other factor, it really was a great protein powder and made a noticeable difference in training and recuperation.

Then when it started becoming popular and they had bodybuilders hooked, they sold out, changed the formula, removed the expensive micellar casein and replaced it with cheaper crap protein so they could make a bigger profit. The Met-Rx that came mixed together in the little foil packets was never the same as the original.

But the original Met-Rx, in the two canisters of the Base and the Plus, that stuff was gold.

That just blew my mind.

This thread has me thinking about the horse pill sized liver tabs my dad used to take.

I’m 57 & I remember getting those big ass monsters & I think a serving was 3. That was the first supplement me & I buddy took & we thought we where taking steroids the way we walked around. Oh to be young & stupid…lol!

Haha this is great. I only started training in 2004 and the ads then were really deceptive too but 80s-90s is another level

Crazy that these ads were actually allowed😂. If Supps did half that shit PEDs would be obsolete

Same thing happened to me. Overtrained bad on that! I had to stop it mid way through. At the time I had been training seriously for about 2 years only. Maybe it might have worked for a more veteran lifter. I was 18 years old.
