I have to take warfarin (blood thinner) because I have a mechanical aortic valve. What AAS do not interact or cause further blood thinning? I know that orals Tbol and drol will thin the blood thus cause a risk of bleeding. I get regular INR blood tests.

Is it really that important to run aas when your already having problems with your heart and blood?...

Alaski I have the same valve, St. Judes. So far i have run test, winny, proviron and anavar. Your gonna have to stay on top of the inr tests. I have a home monitor to test my levels. The anavar and winny reaaly seemed to screw with the levels. For me I had to drop the warfarin dosage. 700 ml a week of test and 100mgs winny ed, put my inr levels almost to 4, the doc wants me between 2.5 and 3.5. I hope that helps, just be careful do your research and get your testing done everyweek.

I have the same valve, St. Judes along with the Aortic root. It seems only certain orals have that effect of causing my INR to go up. My doctor is always adjusting my doses and seems to work. My surgeon said I would not have "any" limitations except for bleeding longer than most would. Therefore, I am taking him at his word. I am not going to stop living and waste away as weak old man. Death sounds much more appealing than being a broke down hormone deficient fat ass.

Where do you get a home monitor? That sounds like something that would be perfect for me so I don't have to run down to the lab every week.

You got that right! the monitor is from a company called Raytel Medical Corporation, the name of the monitor is In Ratio. Ask your Doc, your medical insurance will pay for it. It does make it a lot easier to keep things in check, I had my valve replace almost 10 years ago and have learned how to adjust the warfrin levels my self. I checked the history on the monitor and the highest my inr went was almost 6 and you know what that means, so be careful. Make sure you get your levels checked and do your research.

Im on 6mg/day coumadin and use an IN Ratio monitor at home too. Its great being able to do it at home, and easy to use. The strips are expensive, but its worth it. My insurance pays 80%, so I ended up paying about $450 for the monitor and 1 box of strips. The price on the monitor and strips was something stupid like $3000, but insurance helps a lot. I was able to find some monitors on my own from Philips, but insurance wouldnt pay for those. the philips monitor was less expensive too but insurance didnt have an agreement with them. The philips monitor was about 1/2 the cost!
What do you keep your INR at? My range is 2 to 3.

something that would concern me if i were you

I hope you have your hematocrit/hemoglobin checked regularly. Almost all AAS raise those values. High androgens are the worst. I should hope you dont let them get any higher than say 53 HCT.

Thanks Maldorf, I'm taking 10mg a day coumadin, my levels are 2.5 to 3.5> I keep a close eye on things and adjust as needed. Yes I do get regular blood work done, last check 53.8hct 1450 on the testosterone. Doc has me on TRT at 250 week test cyp. Did my first cycle last year after 20 years lifting natural, test levels were at 350 started Trt and figured might as well have some fun. My stats, age 43, 6'2", 238 and b/f around 18. Glad to know I am not alone and I am really thankful for this site and all the great information.

Yeah, that HCT is right at the limit and probably just fine. Wow, 10mg/day is a large dose! My INR is usually about 2.5 using 6mg/day. Im on trt too at a dose of 120mg/day and that puts my total test at around 870 or so. Your doctor is pretty liberal on the dose, thats good. If I went that high though my HCT would be through the roof.

I just went thru some of my old labs even when my test was at 370 my hct was 49. As for my Doc he was prescribing 150 every three weeks of test, my labs were coming back at 1600, he never blinked. I brought him some articles on test, told him what he was giving me was going to leave me lower then what I started with. He never asked how I got my levels so high or were I was getting the extra test. I told him i was playing around with the levels to see what felt good. He asked how much I needed and wrote the script, lol. For $30 a month I get 1 gram of test cyp. I think I will ask him about GH next( lmao). As for the cumadin wish I didn't have to take it,,but thats life, and the dose at 10mg a day, I am not sure if that is based on my size.

Not sure about the dosage thing. I weigh around 230 lbs right now and take 6mg/day.

So your hct was at 49 and you were natural? Now you are on test, whats your average dose now? WHats your hct at now?

6 oh shit! Yes I know what than means. One scratch and I bleed like a stuck pig. I had mine at 5.6 (I had small cuts that would not heal or stop bleeding without pressure) and the doc said stop taking warfarin for 3 days and start a 5mg/day. However, I stopped the drol in it dropped below 2.0 then he put back up to 10mg/day. 10mg/day works great as long as no other contributors are taken. I am still learning what things will change my INR radically. You sound like a great source for a protocol that will work for me. Definitely will keep you in mind (if you don't mind) for what works and what doesn't. Thank you very much for your help. As you know, that valve does not mean your heart has any problems, in fact I think my valve is more durable than original.

I get full panel every two months or about that. The doc has not said anything that alarmed him in that category. I need to request a copy to be sent to my address for my review. That way I can monitor these things with a little knowledge of what is being effected. They usually come with a range of normal with that which is out of range, either high or low. My liver enzymes were a little high last test, which is expected with an oral like drol. However, I am never taking that again. Creatinine levels have been a little high (even without AAS in my system) but my cardiologist says that is normal for guy my size (6'4" 285 lbs). I believe muscle mass has some effect on those levels.

I need to contact my insurance company and see what is covered. I'm sure I am candidate for it.

test levels?

Now I am really feeling stupid. I don't think my test levels are being checked, if they are they ain't saying. Is that a normal protocol for blood tests? Does insurance companies really give a damn about test levels? Or is that something that comes out of your own pocket?

Sorry for so many posts in row but I was reading them one by one. Damn it's good to know I am not alone in this situation.

By the way I am 51 years old, healthy except for that aortic aneurysm that fucked things up for a while. It's fixed now and I have a very large scar in the middle of my chest.

Maldorf, Iam not sure on the cumadin dosage either, must be the way my body works. As for the test, I am using 250-300mgs a week and the hct was at 53.8. Sounds like you have been around for a while and have more knowledge then me. Was wondering if you could help with some input, I was thinking about running some eq or primo with the test. At my age I am interested in quality not quanity. Just trying to turn the clock back a few years.

Alaski, same here, I was born with a screwed up valve had my first surgery at 12. Had the replacement when I was 33 almost 10 years ago, my heart is as healthy as can be. Ask your doc to start checking your test levels, I don't think it matters to the insurance company if your doc requests it. If you have any questions feel free to ask, thats what this site is for. I think we are all here to learn and help each other out.

I'm not sure my doc would be real supportive if I told him I was using steroids. I would not want that fact in my medical records that might bite me in the ass, if I ever had to reveal medical records for benefits.

I noticed my next blood work does not have Hematocrit marked on the lab order sheet. I had to edit this post...CBC is marked which my research just indicated is complete blood count that includes HCT. See if I had not talked with you all I would not have known its importance. I do remember the iron pills after my surgery because I was anemic for a while. With all the abbreviations on this lab sheet I have no idea what I am looking at.

What lab result should I be most concerned with while using AAS?

You don't have to tell your doc your using gear just ask to have your testostarone levels checked. As for the blood work the book anabolics 2009 has a section on lab work, what to check and what they mean.

HCT, Hemoglobin, liver enzymes (ALT, AST), cholestrol (especially a low HDL), there are others.

all marked

thanks...all those are marked on the lab order for my next blood test. I think I am getting all the right tests except test levels. If I ask for test levels and they back sky high, won't that tip of the doc I am taking test? At 51 years old I don't think it would be expected to have high levels of test, in fact they ought to be low.
