For last couple of months every time i eat lunch i feel sleepy and tired. few times i fell asleep at my desk at work.
Dont matter what i eat, chicken, steak, rice , potatoes or hamburger, its same.I just cant keep my eyes open for like an hour. After an hour im fine and energy kicks in.
I tried coffee but no help.
Any ideas?

How much are you eating in the way of carbs? High blood sugar can make you sleepy or really tired feeling. Try a high protein lunch with no carbs and see how that goes.

i was going to ask/suggest this also.. quantity matters too if you are really full that can make you kinda sleepy.. or maybe its just that you are at work.. work seems to make me tired no matter how much coffee i have and no matter of what i eat..

I do eat a lot. Usuall lunch is 6 to 8 oz rice or potatoes, 6 to 8 oz steak or chicken. And some veggies.
I do have lots of carbs thru the day. In the morning carbs mixed wit egg whites and during the workout mixed 40g carb drink..

Im 247lbs, trying to put more mass as 247 on 6'3 doesnt look that big:)

i would think the amount of food in general could make you tired and the carbs will almost definitely make you tired.. they do me anyway

stress, anxiety

Possibly a sleep attack brought on by strong emotions? Significant stress? Anxiety? Depression? Unusually hot working conditions?

Any other times you feel compelled to sleep? Sleep apnea??

yep. i would bet thats it... digestion takes energy and the body has to slow down other things to compensate. try not eating so much in one sitting. split it up into more meals so you don't overwhelm your gi tract all at once.

just have a protein shake with a tsb of peanut butter instead.

you'll be good to go.

BFU

I definately have a similar problem. While I think the cocaine solution would work, and yes, in the eighties it was acceptable to do off ones desk, it was not just regulated to doing off the backside of strippers the way it is today, I think eating less, and less carbs did the trick for me.

Other solution I tried that works:

I bought a reclining leather sofa from costco and put it in my office, I find it equally effective!

Same thing happens to me bro, Limit portions, limit carbs-I found the more carbs I ate the sleepier I got.

It might not be the food, it could be not sleeping enough at night or over training. That lunch desn't sound bad, but how often are you eating? If you are wait too long between meals, this could drop blood sugars.

I am thinking more along these lines. I know if I get less than 8 hours of sleep a night I am tired like you describe. I would get tired after eating just like you if I wasnt getting enough sleep. If I slept enough the night before those feelings of tiredness after eating went away. Over training is always looming too.

Like everyone said.. Stick with a protein/fat meal around lunch.. Or take some phylum husk or chromium picolinate prior to your protein/carb meal.. To control insulin levels..

Maybe eat less starches at lunch...i.e. rice, Potatoes etc. Try eating more protein and vegetables with your lunch meal then depending on when you train put those starches back in following your workout. Or if you get a lunch break take a 20 minute power nap. Anything longer might make you feel lethargic. I hope these suggestions are helpful. God Bless

Thanks guys for your suggestions.
I will try and eat less and split in to the more portions.

I sleep about 7 to 8 h a nigh, just can't sleep more due to 3 jobs i have:D

Sounds like a classic drop in blood sugar levels to me. The first symptom of lowered blood sugar is sleepiness as you describe, and yes, coffee will not help this kind of sleepiness. You may have mild hypoglycemia. You can only check this by using a blood glucose meter. This used to happen to me for years until the last two years where it suddenly became very pronounced and goes into full-blown hypoglycemia.

Check your glucose levels when you feel sleepy after a meal and then again when you feel normal to compare. Typically, a meal should raise your blood sugar to around 140 or more then come back down. If it lowers instead to 90-100 (or lower), your body is producing too much insulin in response to your meal.

You really want to make sure you know what's going on because hypoglycemia is considered a precursor to diabetes (type I).

You know thats what im worried about.
I bought glucose tablets and today after lunch when i start feeling sleepy i will take one and see if that helps.
