i dont drink often, as it really has no place in anyone's life who cares about health. really a no-no for the guys on this board.

but every once in a while most of us drink a little. i dont drink beer at all, just wine or liquor

why is it the next morning i look better. is it the dehydration making me look leaner? if thats the case maybe i am just fat and bloated, but seriously my gut also looks flatter. maybe its cause of the nasty dump we take after we drink. wow what a stinky unholy pile this morning. in all honesty i feel SO much better, and i look better.

hmmm. maybe becuase it is indeed a slight posion, the body reacts by going into a little 'overdrive' and we end up exceting a bunch of toxins?

either way i must say the most dangerous aspect of drinking is how ugly chics start to look hot. got watch who ya wake up next to after a few drinks!

Alcohol is the ultimate tonic!!!:D
In moderation that is.:p
Probably severall things but the dehydration will make you look a bit better.

Exactly, you just pissed out a bunch of water weight.

Beer is full of carbs. No good ones, but carbs none the less. = Fullness.

He said he doesn't drink any beer though. Could the fullness have anything to do with the calories in the alcohol? 7 calories per gram, second only to fat. Does anyone know what the body does with calories from alcohol compared to how it uses calories from protein, fats and carbs and how they are most likely to be stored or burned? I've never seem any comparisons before.

i hate to be 'that guy' that posts all over his own thread like natabolic, but this just irritates the crap out of me.
i SPECIFICALLY said, not even a whole page up from here that i DON'T drink beer. then someone says i didnt get flat cause beer has carbs. do you even read a thread before you post?

Some of it converts to sugars. But the dry look is from dehydration.

Yeah I knew that as it acts as a diuretic I just didn't know what was done with the actual calories contained. So if it converts to sugar the calories would pretty much be considered the same as consuming regular sugars or simple carbs?

Excuuuuuuse me, I misread the post. my bad.

Funny you mention this, I thought the same thing. It has to be the dehydrating effect. I went away for a trip earlier this year, and spent 5 nights straight drinking my ass off. This was the only time I can recall that I got hammered for a week straight back to back nights, ate nothing but garbage. Came home from the trip and looked better than before I left. To this day it baffles me

in regards to alcohol metabolism-
you dont get fat from the alchol in alcoholic drinks, you get fat from the carbs in them. this is because when you ingest alcohol you must burn this off as energy before you burn off any other kinds of energy sources (fats or carbs)..the alcohol takes priority. so this means that the carbs in the alcohol go to fat since youcant burn them because of the alochol

at least, thats what i read somewhere

:D

yes you look better because its a diuretic

ok, so now you've got me interested. i am 37 and was not kind to my body in my younger years. i over indulged in ...um...everything. i understand the dehydration thing in the body, but when i drink more than a couple of drinks, the next day my face looks like i ate 200 d-bol and took 1000mg of test. my liver functions are always good when tested, so does anyone know why i get this serious edema in the face??

ur right, the body detects a toxic or a poison, and it goes directly to trying to process that before anything else, hence the carbs get stored as fat

Read this in an article on effects of alcohol on the body: Alcohol dehydrates your body and your skin, also causing redness of the skin or make it appear blotchy. It can permanently enlarge the peripheral vessels of the skin.
Hence the puffiness?

Like alot of other guys(not all or even most) I got serious about lifting as a way to turn my addictive personality towards something healthy. Most of my twenties were wasted on alcohol and chemicals. A struggle I wish on no human. Which is why I mostly lurk and never post. But this really caught my eye. On the rare occasion I fall off the wagon I look my best. But don't be fooled. The sugar in the drinks may make your muscles look full. And the alcohol may dehydrate you to make you look cut. But it is a very temporary fix. Alcohol will really slow your growth. I don't mean to be a thread stealer but I struggle every day to lead a healthy life. If anyone else has turned to lifting to get away from destructive behaviours maybe we could start a thread. Thank you for all the great info I have gotten off this board.

It is not so much that carbs get stored as fat but the fact that your liver is asked to deal witrh the poison just introduced. So the liver no longer can process fat at all until the alcohol is gone from your system. So once fat burning is shut down in the body you now have an enviroment ripe for fat storage. Once the liver rids your system of alcohol fat burning resumes. Most would then ask why alcoholics are so skinny, most of them. Easy answer......they do not eat, they drink!! We eat and usually lots of it. This is why the social drinker is usually overweight!

the only thing i like about a good weekend of drinking is that by monday morning my body is rebounding from the dehydration and i hold water which makes my joints not hurt and i can push a ton of weight... O YEA
