the crazy thing is that this junk was published in esquire. it was a complete rip-off of Chuck Palahniuk's experience of taking anadrol for three weeks in his non-fiction collection "Stranger than Fiction." of course both of them are nothing compared to Sam Fussell who actually went out and competed.


Though Palahniukis an entertaining writer, it is irritating that he takes on the mantle of "steroid expert" because he took an oral for three weeks. He actually was slated for writing a screenplay about female bodybuilding (chemical pink), and his protagonist in "Survivor" is always using gear. in one scene the dude sharpens an insulin needle on a matchbook and then shoots equipoise IV, which gives him an instant erection. he could have at least researched how people actually take stuff... really pissed me off.


the canadian dude is writing about mma. i bet he would agree to get his ass kicked in the ring for the sake of his art. i'm sure there is at least one pm member up near him who does MMA hehehe.

there is something sorta sad about the guy though-- if you do a close read of the article, the thing that is most pathetic is he can find no-one to have sex with. this is mentioned both in the jerking off section, and also in his lamenting about sterility part. i really think he is just juxtaposing his own sense of inadequacy onto the steroid experience.

this would be your best opening if you wanted to take a knock at the guy--I am sure that in the book, his protagonist has a love interest. you should write him (or better yet have a chick write him) and ask: "if you are so method-writing oriented, how come you can't get laid?"

I know what he is going for, being melodramatic and feeding into peoples preconceptions make his readers feel good about their stereotypes and false beliefs, and because he is offering a story that feeds into their hysteria, he is be defination, a "great writer".

That guy is a douche. I've read the article before and it's just frustrating to read as you know this is where the general public gets it's steroid info and would believe everything he says. Then go around stating all these things to their friends as cold hard facts.
Did anyone see the little documentary that 48 hours had on TV last night about steroids? I'm not sure how old it was but it was recent enough to have the Hooton family in it. I smacked my own forehead when the reporter was interviewing a kid that took d-bol for a year and a half and then suffered depression after coming off cold turkey. Wonder why? Anyway, when he asked the kid what he took and he responded dianabol the reporter acts shocked and says "that's a horse steroid! Did you know that?" I would be embarrassed to do a story on something when I had obviously done no research leading me to make statements like that.
