I like reading various bodybuilding forums to pass the time while at work..lol

Anyway..

I've been reading a few workout logs/threads on one particular site and I'm baffled at the length of these peoples workouts. Multiple people list their w/o times at 2.5-3 hrs long (including cardio). One guy even states "2 bodyparts a day for 1 hr each..Then 1 hr for abs and cardio"..

I feel that I can get a QUALITY workout, including cardio, in roughly 60-90 minutes..Am I missing the boat on something?

No. Not at all. It just means your productive. Different strokes for different....you know the rest.
For me its 45min then 30-45min cardio and out. But thats all I need to do the do ya know?
 
I agree w/ nos...the guy I've working w/ is so insecure that at the end of every workout he's just gotta hit one more exercise, just a few more sets. Precontest from abs and warmup to workout and cardio then posing he'll be in the gym for 5 hours a day six days a week... off season is typically two to three hours a day 4 to 5 days a week. I think 45-90 mins is plenty for weights and cardio/abs....then get the hell out there and go eat and then rest and repeat.
 
There is no need for that long of a workout. I like to mix things up and will sometimes stretch a workout or shorten it to go heavy with lots of rest or try to trick my muscles by going light and little rest. But an average workout of a large bodypart 20 sets give or take is under an hour.
 
Honestly, I do something like:

16-20 sets, across 4-5 movements, for 6-8 reps each set

due to my schedule the week usually runs

chest
legs
day off
back
day off
repeat

I don't think I could make my workouts longer, even if I really tried to..hahaha
 
All I can say is get a friggin' life! I used to spend that kinda time in the gym when I first started and when I look back at it I realize how big of a waste of time it was. Im making the best gains of my life now and I spend less than 30 minutes a day 2 - 3 days a week as far as the cardio freaks go , you wouldnt need to spend so much time doing cardio if your diet was more in check. Bodybuilding for me is about feeling good about myself when Im out of the gym having fun with my girlfriend and friends! , not some ego driven maniacal obsession with being a male adonis. someone telling me that they are spending 4 hours a day in the gym is the same as someone telling me they spend 4 hours in front of the computer in a chat room with people they never met in real life before.
 
Stimulate the muscle, no need to beat it down by annihilating it for hours at a time. More is never better, quality training over just gym time! Get to the gym get it done, go home eat, enjoy life, recover!

Ya know..I said something along those lines, but I was stunned with a "This is how the pros train, if you want to grow..you gotta work"..lol

so someone else replied with a "my friend is a very good amateur competitor and spends just a little over an hr for each session. He recently placed 5th in his last comp.."

These two yahoos came back with "Thats why he ONLY got 5th.."


I love this board and will never, ever leave...hahaha

how well do these 2 yahoos do in thier competitions?
train with weights 45-55 minutes and do cardio if you're not satisfied with your bf%

I wish I had found this board many, many years ago..
 
Just in case there is any confusion...I wasn't asking if they were right:eek::cool:...I listen to this board and trust that the people on this board know much more than those two..just thought people would get a kick out of it..hahaha..
