I have never really gotten into bodybuilding, mainly because of my lengthy frame. I'm 6'1, and I work out with a biddy whos 5'7. When I gain 5 lbs its hardly even noticeable, while he looks like a little beast with an extra 5lbs. Kind of disheartening. Any taller bodybuilders have any advice or suggestions?

yeah i have the same problem, i weigh 225lbs right now and look a little bigger than 215lbs, it sucks. but one thing is true, if you do manage to get to 240+lbs you will look a lot better than the shorther guys.

Hang in there.....;)

I am 6ft. 245-248lb.

It takes time, but it will come along........

I'm 6.3" I know I'll never compete, not cos of the height either, but I must say It takes at least gaining 14 lbs for anythng to show up on my frame.

im also a tall bodybuilder, we might not look huge as fast as the smaller guys but we can add alot more muscle to our frames than the smaller guys.
i'm 6'2 feet and 300 lbs.

Agreed, I'm about 6' 4" 240, and have gained about 55 pounds in my 3 year bodybuilding career. I got a buddy who is 5' 9" and has gained 20 pounds so far and looks every bit as big as me.

There is a national level superheavyweight who is about 6' 3" that I train with from time to time. He's told me many times, anyone shorter than 5' 9" will have filled out 5-7 years faster than me. But he always says, a fully developed tall bodybuilder, will always beat a fully developed short bodybuilder.

hang in there, the size will come. plus, if you were 5' 6" it would usually look retarded to be 250 pounds.

It just takes longer to fill out your frame. Take your time. Do it right. Everything else will fall into place. There's no secret recipe for tall guys other than the time factor. I'm 6'3" 294(a little soft but thats ok cuz the diet starts in two weeks lol) and I started lifting when I was 12. At 12 I was the same height and 165lbs. I turned 30 in September. After almost two decades of lifting I have gained a lot but there is still such a long way to go. Just keep beatin on the iron, bro. Thats what its all about.

Wow, I'm surprised to see so many taller guys! Definitely helps motivate me to pursue the sport. I myself started lifting at 16, at 6'1 ~130lbs :( I've gotten up to about 193, right now sitting at 180 (Took a year break from lifting after a motorcycle accident). I wanna get somewhere around 230-240lbs, trying to achieve a Frank Zane'ish physique.

yes. i'm 6 1 and 188lbs. right now. my advice is this....make your lifts heavier with less reps....no more then
8 reps on anything you do ....and eat , you have to eat, eat , eat.

b.t.w....it takes time , dont think you'll get any where in a week or two.but keep on it.you will like the results in a year.....

You guys dont have it so bad. Im 6'7. im currently 310 and still look like a basketball player. on well, keep on pumping iron i guess

I am 6' 1" and weigh 213, but I am lean at that weight. I weighed 250-260 before and had to eat 6000-7000 calories a day. I actually glad I don't weigh that anymore, being close to 49, it takes it's toll on your joints. Right now, I feel good. On a personal note, I like to get to 225, so I can be competive at a master's show. I just do it slow, so I can stay lean, and be not to far from competive weight. Keep in mind, BB is judged not just on weight, it includes symetry, conditioning, and size.

Im 6'5", 280 .lbs... EAT EAT EAT. Change up your routine every couple of weeks.. OH YA AND EAT!

6-1 285. I just finished up two shows this year, roughly 8 weeks ago and have put all my weight back on and then some, but leaner at a higher bodyweight.
Gotta borrow from the last post, EAT EAT EAT. But it's got to be quality foods 95% of the time, unless you have a stupidly fast metabolism, which I don't!
Also, I have found that in some exercises, locking out can be a waste. Such as bench, where the last few inches is all tricep anyway, I keep my range a little short, and pump the muscle.

Oh, and SQUAT BABY!!! I can never put on weight without torturing my legs routinely!

Right at 6'2 (seem to be shrinking however lately, sometimes they say I'm 6'1now) with relatively long arms. Made it easier to dunk but not quite as easy for "peaky" bicep.:)

Little over 6' 290lbs. Problem I have is I'm big boned with
large joints. Like the others said you gotta eat your ass off.
and beings taller means longer I feel pressing and compound
movememts would be better then isolation. Wth longer arms
you can screw your self up joint wise doing thoughs things.

Well… I used to be 6', but after years of heavy deadlifts, I am 5'9" now :(

6 foot 4 + and a donut away from 300lbs.

6'5" started at a "really big" 195-200lbs:) now almost 4yrs later, im 295 and look "Normal" sucks just gotta keep at it. So yes i do feel the pain of others. lol

I'm right at 6'. I'm only 18 though, right at 175 lbs. I look skinny as hell even though I can lift more than these guys that are 5'6 and look BUILT. Ohhh it takes so long to pack on weight!

I'm glad I found this board at an early age though : )
