Anybody own Audi A4?

thanks thick,i have not spoken to a dealer and just started doing a little research over the last couple of days, but what i am wondering is Audi like the benz and lexus and that is do you have to take them in every few months to have service maintenance done?

I'm on my 2nd Audi A6. I bought both new. Service is only every 10k miles or once per year! When I bought mine new I always got the service plan with them. The service plan pays for all of the service during the warranty period, which is 4 years or 50k miles whichever comes first. Its nice. You take the car in and pay nothing. I think the plan is about $1200, I forget how much. On the first car it was included in the price, because back in 2003 the plan was included with all new Audis. My new one, a 2008, I had them through it in the price of the car. I got a great deal on it. Always barter with them. They want to make the sale.

For what it's worth: I had a Audi A6 as well as my last car, but I used to do all my maintenance myself. Plus if you can find a reliable garage car service station somewhere, you can easily have them do it for you for half the price the Audi etc. dealer would do it for.

don't you have to take every car in ever couple of months?

No! Just once every 10k miles. Not sure why you are under that impression. its very low maintenance since they use full synthetic oil. My dealership does have me take mine in every 5k miles, and if I do that I have a lifetime warranty on the engine and drivetrain. I do that of course! its awesome. the warranty though only requires maintenance once every 10k miles!

thanks maldorf, when you take it in they just do oil change for service? im just wondering i know some peeps that have benz and they take in for these scheduled services, like shedule a ,b,c,etc and it seems to be fairly expensive. To the other post no you dont take every car in every couple months im not talking about just oil chnge,i drive a yukon right now with a 100k miles on it ( i drive about 25k a year ) and all i do is get oil change every 10k miles and thats not even synthetic oil.

They do everything for you thats called for in the service manual. I dont really pay attention to it since its already paid for. Its the usual maintenance though like youd have on any other car. Its not just oil changes. I cant remember for sure what the cost on the plan is, because I had them throw it in as part of the deal when I bought it. Im pretty sure though that its only for new cars. Im not sure if you can get it with used. Are you looking to buy the A4 new?

yeah im looking at 2010,i have considered 09.

Go 2009 if you can. Youll get it a lot cheaper. I always buy mine 1 year old. My A6 I got them to take $10k off the sticker price and throw in the maintenance schedule for free!

yeah that sounds like great deal there. thanks for your help!

Yep, they want to get rid of old stock. Lots of times too there is money available either to the consumer or to the dealer(this is secret and you wont know about it) when someone buys last year's model. I sold Mazdas and Chevy trucks at one time.

Advice if you buy the 2.2T

If you get a turbo, please do not chip it. I chipped my first Audi A6 that had the twin turbo 2.7t. It went from like 260hp up to 310 hp with a crazy 365 ft torque. I used APR, which is the gold standard for this sort of thing. they are supposed to be the best. I had many problems with that car after I did that. they replaced both turbos and head gaskets trying to fix a coolant loss problem.it got better but never went away! they even called in an engineer from Audi headquarters to look at it. I didnt tell them it was chipped because that voids your warranty.

THe last straw was when I blew up the transmission at 36k miles. I had them fix that and then I traded it in. Dont chip it. I really think you will have problems. the cars arent meant to run like that.

Yes, Maldorf is correct with the maintenance plan, very easy to just take in and everything gets taken care of. I had a headlight go out and I just took it in and about an hour later the car was back out.

This is the reason I would buy Audi and BMW and not Mercedes (my wife had one and the Mercedes service sucks big time.

Service at my Audi place is top notch. Ive never seen anything like it. they even replace your windshield wipers for free under the plan. they did these things for me with my 02 A6: replaced both turbos, new transmission, new headgaskets, new oil cooler, and even more I cannot remember. all under warranty. the transmission alone would have been like $6-7k for parts and labor they said. The turbos were thousands too. They took care of me. I had a loaner for free too while the work was being done. I had a brand new toyota Prius :D

thanks for the info fellows, probably going to stick with the A4, i will for sure check a couple dealers to see if they have some 09's on the lot.

Going with a new Audi is a very good choice. My brother just got a new 09 S5 with the last of the V8 engine as he did not like the V6 supercharged 2010 S5.

Maldorf, did they have to use a shoe horn to get you into the Prius?

Cool, your bro has the same engine I have in mine. I love it. I never test drove the supercharged version, but figured I like the smooth V8 better. Its great.

Surprisingly, the cabin of the Prius is pretty large up front. The rear seat is smaller than mine, but even it is roomy for the size of the car. It really is designed for lots of room inside. Not too exciting to drive, but it was fun at first since driving a hybrid was new to me. I was very glad though to get my Audi back when it was done. One thing I did miss though was the MPG on the prius. It had a really small tank and ran on regular. Mine has like a 19 gallon tank and takes premium. I filled it up, 18 gallons today, and it cost my $60. That lasts me a week or so, but only because I dont drive much. I average about 17 mpg or so.

heres one issue with an audi IMO. service after a warranty. keep in mind i have never own an audi, but a very good friend of mine has an a6 that is out of warranty, and another coworker has had 2 audi A4's. with the friend with the A6, he had an air conditioning malfunction or something else, i dont recall exactly. what i do remember is that on my 350z, or old tahoe the same repair would have cost no more then 3-400$. on his A6 it cost him 1600$ because the entire back seat had to be removed, as well as some other ridiculous things for them to be able to fix the problem. as for the coworker that had 2 a4's, each time once the warranty expired everything that could go wrong with the car did go wrong with the car. each was in the shop for repairs a minimum of once a month. since then she has moved on to a volkswagon with no issue. given the experiences of my couple of friends, i could see an audi being a great 2nd or 3rd car, but i would be hesitant having it as a primary car in case you have issues like these. btw, the a6 was a 2003, and the a4s were 2002 and 2007 models. I can't say if they have corrected these issues since, but i personally wouldnt risk it if i were looking for a primary car.
