Anyone else making due with a subpar gym? Would you switch gyms if...?

I'm at Fitness 19, if any of you are familiar with them. I've been to gyms all over, but got on here because it's within bike riding distance of my house and only costs 12 bucks a month. Compared to California Family Fitness or 24 Hour Shitness (I mean "Fitness"), it seems lacking in square footage to the point that I feel like I'm getting tunnel vision when I go in. Sometimes I weasel guest passes from the other gyms in the area just to get out of the one I go to. Am I alone here in shitty gym world, or are there others? I am wondering about this because most of you seem pretty serious about your lifting. Would you pay more and drive further to go to Gold's, or would you stay close and stay cheap at the office box? I'm contemplating making the switch.

every gym near my home is sub par, I would have to drive a long way to find a specialist one, my gym business is 40 miles from my house!! I made due for a long time with a bench at home

My home gym is a hole in the wall type of place...Its pretty much all old machines and free weights...Its a hell hole ,but I have some of my best workouts there..Now I do love the high tech gyms, but honestly It doesnt matter to me if I have something nice or not...Im there to get the job done !!! Really you sould bored with your gym, you might need to change it up to get up about your workouts again...Change over to golds for a month or something..OR have two memberships if you can afford it..I have belonged to 3 different gyms at one time, so I dont get bored with any of them

I train at a Powerhouse, but it's sort of a no frills gym. It's got good equipment, though nothing new in the weight or machine department in 10 years. It's held up and train well on it. I had an old training partner who used to come on here quite a bit, who would bag on it all the time. Then he took me to Lifetime Fitness, and I just couldn't get used to that.

My gym owner knows I train pretty hard. I grunt, snort, talk to myself, lift pretty heavy, but I don't drop weights. I wipe up my sweat after Im done, and always re-rack, so he and his wife don't really mind me. Plus I support my gym each day. I will by some type of drink from them at least 3 times a week, which is 3 times more than any of the fitness fanatics.

Basically my gym is just a little local gym with the Powerhouse name on it. Nothing fancy and you can get the job done in there. Just wish they had a seated leg curl.

I pay 40$ a month for my gym and I drive 15min away, but it's worth it for all the great equipment and people my age that go there.

My only beef with it is that there is only ONE cage. That's right, only one place to squat in the entire gym. On leg day I have to go early in the morning or I'll never be able to squat.

that's the problem I'm having with my gym. One squat rack. One smith machine (not that I use it, either... I sometimes have to squat in that bastard when the squat rack is taken up, and most of the time the smith machine is taken up so I end up hanging out and warming up for 30 minutes while the people do their exercises). I'm calling Gold's now, and hopefully I can swing some kind of deal. We'll see what we see. I'll post what happens in a bit...

i go to an la fitness thats 5 minutes from my house, but i recently found out koloseum gym is just a half of an hour away. i might switch to there.

my gym, like every other 'standard' gym has TONS of stuff for chest and biceps, and crap for other bodyparts. of course 85% of guys train chest monday and arms tuesday, and fail to realize those bodyparts comprise a SMALL amount of their total muscle mass.

1 military press (free weights) which is the worst designed piece of equipment of all time

1 squat rack

no place to do deadlifts or bent rows unless you do it in the middle of the gym somewhere

5 benches, 2 identical preacher curl machines, about 10 different machine type benches, 2 pec decs, 6 other various biceps machines

mines not much different, ive got for dumbbells, 2 military press benches, 2 flat banches, 2 incline benches, 1 decline bench. then for barbells, 3 flats, 2 incline, and 1 decline. i dont even know how many machine benches. but thenn we have 1 squat cage and 1 squat rack(usually used for curling). 2 smith machines, then leg press, haack squat and similiar equipment. deadlifts would be done by the squat cage, but the floor is a bit uneven, so the bar always rolls on one side and you spend more effot getting it straight then actually deadlifting.
