Just wondering what your weekly routine is as far as lifting and training with the heavy bag and so on.

thanks!

I have a friend that does, I will link him to this thread.

I usually train 3 days a week....and then go to open man on Sat and train light. and lift 3 days a week and then have one day of bodyweight plyometrics and maybe 1 or 2 days I'll go for a run. Obviously some of these are two a days.

Depends on what my goals are during lifting. Sometimes I will do 3 way split:
Mon - Chest, Shoulder, Tri
Wed - Legs
Fri - Bi's and back

when I'm serious about training for MMA my lifting split is:
Mon - Full body Circuit training for about 45 min
Wed - Power day. Deads, bench, Squat, Mil Press low reps high weight
Fri - Full body workout sets of 15-20
Sat - plyo's

Most days I train in the evenings, sometimes I'll go do some bag work before work around 6 am. Sometimes I'll lift during my lunch break and then MMA at night other days I run during lunch and MMA at night. Other days just MMA at night.

Sundays rest.

I train techniques and do bag work 2 times a week
Spar 2 times a week
lift weights 2-3 times a week

Think i need to bump up my Circuit Training

You know this is a really good thread, because I sometimes have the same questions. I want to be in great fighting shape, but at the same time I want to look great and sometimes the two don't go together. Like Jwill said, sometimes I only lift 2 times in one week, because I'm smoked and I think damn my arms are going to shrink!!!

To be honest though, the circuit training is awesome. i do something similar to what Randy Couture has posted on you tube for his circuit and I do as many circuits as I can in 45 minutes with one minute rest in between. I feel like I work my cardio and muscle endurace. I sweat like an animal too during these workouts.

Also do a google for Justin Garcia and his workout. He's a world class grappler who owns Jungle Gym in NY. He's go some cool circuit and power lifting routines and some cool bodyweight stuff.

If anyone has some ideas or cool exercises please post them. I'm always looking for something to better my game.

I feel unless you have a sponsor or are making a living fighting todays mma fighter needs to make some sacrifices because training there are essentials in ones training, diet and lifestyle that absolutaly must be followed if one hopes to fight pro.(Of course there are exceptions as some people are maybe 1% of the fighting population that is so gifted they have room for error. I certainly am not one of these lucky few!)- IN MY EXPERIENCETHE FOLLOWING NEEDS TO BE ADHERED TO: GROUND TRAINING 4 OR 5 DAYS A WEEK, STAND UP TRAINING 3 DAYS WITH ONE OF THE DAYS BEING FULL CONTACT SPARRING, AND LIFTING HARD AND HEAVY! A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DISSAGREE WITH ME ABOUT THE LIFTING BEING SO VITAL AND THEY ARE NOT WRONG AS MANY FIGHTERS DON'T LIFT HEAYY AND HAVE GREAT FIGHT CARRERS. I AM ONLY TELLING YOU WHERE I HAVE FOUND SUCCESS.

SO MY POINT BEING NO MATTER WHAT WAY ONE LOOKS AT IT ANYTHING LESS THEN OPTIMUM RECOVERY WILL NOT GET YOU TO THE NEXT LEVEL. OPTIMUM RECOVERY REQUIRES GREAT EATING AND PROPER SLEEP! SO TO DO THIS OTHER ACTIVITIES LIKE DRINKING, PARTYING AND THAT WHOLE LIFESTYLE IF NOT GIVEN UP WILL WARE YOU DOWN.

GOOD LUCK,

OUT OF CURIOSITY IS YOUR BACKGROUND STRIKING OR ON THE GROUND?

HAZE, are you talking about those barbell complexes that Couture put on the net? Where he continuously moves from one exercise to another with a barbell? Because dude those things are KILLER

I don't have any time (or make time I suppose) to train conditioning or the bag outside of my twice a week visits to Shamrock's. I go to the gym 2-3 nights a week, and train MMA twice a week. Conditioning is 30 minutes out of every hour of training, and involves various things based on which class it is. Our current instructor is pretty generic in volume, and what we do again depends on the class and what people feel like. For example we'll do rolls in a grappling class, in a stand up class (clinch, etc) we'll do regular things like pushups, crunches, jogging and so on. If we have 15 people in a class, we'll do 150 pushups, various stances - and so on. That coupled with normal weight training leaves me sore all week, so I don't do anything extra outside.

Frank Shamrock however peaks at about 6 hours of training daily. I have a day job, and bounce 2 nights a week as well, so I just don't annihilate myself to that degree.

I agree completely, if you want to be at the top then there is a fvcking lot of work involved and it WILL be punishing. I think a lot of people on the 'outside' have no idea, especially if you are a heavier guy, you'll be working to move that mass around. I dropped from 260 down to 240-244 and its still pretty punishing conditioning work that goes on.

Lots of time, work and discipline go into this.

Yeah man, thats it.

I workout in a Balley's so at night that place is slammed pack and there is no way I could do a circuit with different machines. So I grab a bench a bar a set of dumbells and I go to work in a corner for about 45 minutes. Its no joke man. Its not even any heavy weight at all but its just a smoker. I had to stop taking anything with NO2 in it (was taking Superpump) because my forearms would get so pumped from grabbing a bar the whole time that I would have to put it down!

mma training

I have really had to make sacrifices to be sure I can train hard, go to school and lift. I am 21 and I am as dedicated an athlete as there is. Sleeping and nutrition cannot slip and in my opinion either can heavy lifting. I am 4-1 and hope to make my pro debut this summer. I feel you build it in the gym and train it to be functional doing your fight training.
