My sister just had a son 4weeks ago. He had an eye infection and today they checked his vitals and said he needs and EKG immediately. Then they let him go, so im presuming if they just let him go then he's fine or else they would have kept him> Anyway you know how long it takes for dr's to get back to you with results and she's really nervous so if anyone has an idea of what this means i'd appreciate it. This is the email she wrote me:

PLease tell me you can discern what the hell this means. Dr hasn't called and I'm getting nervous. So, I found several charts online indicating normal values of an infant EKG/ECG and what would indicate atrial enlargement, disruption, etc and I have his values right in front of me but I don't understand? I think maybe I'm too flustered to comprehend the info. Can you pls figure this out. Heres the link to the chart: **broken link removed** (pertinent info beginning around pg 3) and Cameron's values are as follows:

Vent. rate: 151 bpm, (I know that one's normal)
PR Interval: 112 ms
QRS Duration: 56ms
QT/QTC: 264/418 ms
P-R-T axes: 50 88 59

Would need to see the actual 12 lead in front of me so I could use calipers to determine if they're is anything going on. Most peds dr's don't fuck around though, if they're was something wrong then they wouldn't be keeping her on the fence about it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

My wife works in peds at a hospital and I can assure you that if they found anything remotely of concern, they would not have let him go or would have immediately scheduled follow-up tests. Doctors are notorious for not communicating which can drive one crazy.

I took several classes about the heart and EKG's in school, all of those numbers look about right. they are all a little high, but this makes sense since its a child. Children tend to have higher HR's, meaning more electrical activity.

Agreed unless have 12 lead right in front of us can't really call it..... But also agree NO Dr. Would have let him leave if the child had any troubles.... They would have kept them for observation and made sure it was all good! Ur peds do have a faster exchange and the rate is higher usually 100-120. I would say try not to stress and please keep us posted to what goes on

Thanks guys. He's a colic baby so he probably was just super agitated and had a fast beat or something. Im wondering if maybe they heard a murmor. Either way should find out soon. I think he will be ok.
