I want to put a disclaimer on this thread as it may sound rather harsh in some parts. I am just stating my opinion and it's just the way I feel so no direct disrespect to anyone.

Every time a contest comes around, pro or am, I see people on the message boards making comments on various competitors and about the show in general. It amazes me how much people hack other people's names, have no idea what weight class they are in, or just really have no idea what is going on. It just got me thinking how can someone be a fan of a sport they know so little about? Maybe they are complete newbies to the sport and just learning which I understand completely. However, I see that stuff quite frequently and it just gets irritating sometimes. I guess I just need to get used to it.

I have been working out for around 6 years but consider myself new to bodybuilding since my original purpose was not to compete but to just look good. I think the vast majority of bodybuilders got into the sport by "accident" if you know what i mean. So this could be why so many people are knew fans to the sport.

I was a fan since I was 12. So that's 18 years. I probably could tell you more about bodybuilders from the lase 80s until the mid 90s than i could now. Back them i had all the magazines and they use to come with those posters inside and I have then hanged up on the wall in my basement above my weight bench. I started lifting weights then because I wrestled staring at 12 and played football since I was 10. I came cross magazines in my dads room because he wrestled and lifted weights and he use to buy the muscle mags sometimes.

There was a supplement store back then in the local area that was advertised in the main mags and had a catalog they put out to order supplement. They would have pros and national competitors come to the store periodically and i would try to go if i could.

I then had a paper route and there were 2 brothers who were competitive bodybuilders in the local area. They were pretty cool and give me training tips back then. They let me come to the gym they train at because they would help at the desk sometimes. I would take the closest school bus by the gym and mother would pick me up after she got out of work.

I was probably more into what all the pros were doing back then, now i just have a few favorites that I periodically see whats going on with them and whatever you read on the net and in the mags about the other bodybuilders i will be up to date with, but who knows how true the stuff is. I use to get all the underground magazines back when they were out. Now I will go to all the local shows and maybe every 3-4 years a national show if in my area. I have some buddies that compete and go to their shows and train with them sometimes. I'm more into the local bodybuilding seen and shows though.

im a big fan of amateur bb'ing, not so much pro

I know what you mean bro. It's more about ripping someone else than anything for some people. Cutler is getting to be a target, and most recently Trey Brewer. Jealousy is a mother, that's for sure.

I myself am a fan of bodybuioidng peroid. Pro, NPC, and the lifestyle in general. I have competed before and know what a sacrifice it takes to get intot he condition these guys get into. I respect anybody who makes the sacrfice to get into shape and then the balls to get on stage in skimpy trunks in front of hundreds or thousands and display what they have. Takes guts.

Usually people who cut down on others are miserable people and are " internet" tough guys. I know it gets to people when you see these clowns reply harsh remarks but thats the nature of the interent and jealousy peope have when they look at these national level and pro competitors and then look at themselves. Its only natural.

If I were as good as a pro or top NPC I would almost take it as a compliement that they were trashing me. It means I am doing something right. Just my opinon!

I am more a fan of the lifestyle than the sport. The pros are certainly fun to watch and show you how much can be done but I think that current pro physiques (big guts, synthol, lack of symmetry), drug use, inconsistent and generally vague scoring make it tough to be a fan of the "sport"
