BEER VS HARD LIQUOR- WHAT IS WORSE FOR THE LIVER

I know some members on the board probably drink alcohol and get liver tests done as I do periodically , but does anyone feel beer , even light beer is just as bad for the liver as scotch or vodka? My brother who is studying to work in the medical field told me if I'm gonna drink , stick with beer because liquor is so much worse .

Your brother is wrong. Ethanol is ethanol. The problem with liquor is the ability of the drinker to drink it faster than beer, usually, and therefore overburden the liver's detoxifying abilities.

Any alcohol, if consumed faster than the liver can get rid of it, will harm the liver specifically and every cell in your body. It does not matter in what vehicle the alcohol rides in. It's all the same once it hits your system. And then there is tequila...

Beat me to it haha, i was about to say the exact same thing as i wouldnt think the type of alcohol would matter much as it enters the system with the only difference between the 2 being potency.

Good post re: alcohol is alcohol. The only thing to consider, however, is that in practice, hard liquor will typically cause more problems. Like you said, you can get a more concentrated volume into your system quicker. I also read somewhere that since beer is mostly water, your flushing yourself out more. Not sure how true that is.

Hey, if you have any doubt about which is worse, just drink both to be sure.

dont drink anymore so I couldnt say but in moderation it shouldnt be a problem. I wouldnt drink on a cycle either way

I actually decided as of today to hang it up - Drinking. I need to take meds that wont work with alcohol anyway. The other thing is that it's damn hard for me to drink for a while and stop so I think it would be easier to close that chapter of life.

Maybe a cookout, wedding etc. but the days of weekend alcoholism are over.

Does anyone feel that beer is harder on the waistline than hard liquor?

steve congrats on that move....it takes alot..i ve been sober over a year now and it was the best thing i couldve done.....

on a side note, i find it rather interesting and hipocrytical of people on the board to bash aas or other things like dnp, insulin, etc...but will willingly consume alchol, basically another harmfull (extremely) substance and stand by it morally:confused::confused:.....didnt mean to hijck..just saying

I personally havent had a drink in years.. A drink here and there, wouldnt hurt..

yeah its best to stop.. a little advice though..dont let events be a reason to drink bro..its an excuse and it sets you up to continue..if you can control it like that then fine :)

Guys thanks! This is not easy. I've been drinking for 20 years. It is the cornerstone of every recreational and social thing I do. It is totally engrained in my personality. I'm begining to see that it will be the hardest thing I ever do. But it's killing me; it's killing my wife and it's going to impact my kids.

It's not about me anymore.

congrats on stopping steve. this may be hard to hear but you'll have to seperate yourself from those that push you to still drink. Lots of luck and you can do it. One day at a time

Thanks bro!

beer is worse for gaining fat cuz of the calories. a friend of mine, his doctor, said if you're gonna drink, beer is better for you than liquor, healthwise. something about distillates being harder on your liver than fermented, undistilled alcohol.

This is nto true.
distilled drinks liek vodca, whisky , rum ect. are worse for you.
its broken down in body a bit diff then fermented alcy.
and there are more byproducts from distilled alchy.

if you have a drink have somthing thats has been fermented like wine or beer.

both arenot good for you with reguler use of course.

i have seen more then one study on this and trust me distilled booz IS MUCH WORSE.

If i can find them ill post it but its gonna be a busy week for me.

yes beer is easer on body BUT the caloris and carbs the the fact it makes you fking hungry (me atleast) will make you fatter for most.

Well, in the same volume, of course hard liquor would be worse for the liver since the alcohol content is higher. It all depends how many grams of alcohol you intake.
