Big A:

Looking to the future, I see a time where I am going to have to come off for probably several years. Therefore I am extremely interested in seeing how much weight have you dropped, what your strength is like, are you getting fatter or just smaller, etc over these past six months. Do you feel there is a point where you could stem the tide of decline if you never went back on but resumed hard training?

The main reason why I came off was because I was mentally burned out so it was no point to stay on as I couldn't commit myself. So I stopped the food, the gear AND the gym. Full break. It's been 8 months now. Lost aout 30lbs of muscle. Gained about 10lbs of fat extra. I am 250 and have a powerlifters look, not a bodybuilders. I have felt great NOT having to worry about eating every 2 hours, not doing daily injections, watching comedies on TV rather than going to the gym. However, now I am itching to get back and I will in the next few weeks. I definetely needed this break.

i myself suffered after coming off. have been off almost 100% since july 2001. I have suffered a few issues. one being the loss of sexual desire. i tried clomid, hcg etc.... i just have to wait it out, it gets a tad better each week to month. i have developed a few problems that are personal. i think i took at a good time health wise, or i may have been in trouble after a while. it is easier to see how your body really feels when the juice has been out of your system a few months and you dont feel like superman and you are not to obsessed to see what is going on. If i could do it all again, i would use more health related supplements, liver protection sups, i would of used more anti's to help stop the DHT from attacking my prostate, more cranberry extract, shit like that.. i sure as hell would of had regular blood work done.

willk i think that really important for all of the newbies to hear something like that from a veteran like yourself, so they consider taking all of the right precautions...i've done several cycles now and reading things like that still remind what i all need to be thinking about to do things right

This is all very interesting. The only period where I got completely away from bodybuilding (eating often, working out, etc.) was after they re-attached a nearly torn-off infraspanatus (rotator cuff muscle). This injury occured Post Cycle and deep down I blamed the gear, not my stupidity for the injury. That's why I chose not to do gear after my recovery (but of course have recently changed my mind!!!)

They wouldn't let me "move" my right arm at all after the surgery, to assure that it would heal for 6 weeks. When they finally let me use it, it was basically locked up. I couldn't raise my arm to brush my teeth, let alone touch the top of my head. It took four, hard, determined months to even "begin" to get a normal range of motion.

It took about another 2 months for me to get back into the gym. Talk about proud - how about asking someone to spot you on the bench press with 5 pounds on each end and then have trouble pushing that up!

I've done a LOT of research on how to maintain hard-earned gains post cycle and will post some of those articles for comment on this board. Since I haven't tried them yet, I'm real interested to hear what others think about it - yep, I'm still learning!

Hi,after reading some of these other post s, i know i should have been a little more serious with my reply.Yah i would like to come off this shit for a long time soon, but it is so hard when you have used for a long time to do.I am not a real heavy user but do stay on for long peroids.I do worry about things like the prostate, test being shut down, cholesterol .ECt.One good thing is i do use lots of anti e,and livers protect supplements,i am gonna use proscar to from now on to hopefully protect the prostate. Also nebies get blood work ,i went a long time without doing this, now i get every 4 months os so,so far have not had any problems.Take care

Concerning cholesterol, I have always had a low total value (<130), usually split HDL 40, and LDL 90. But my last two blood tests done post 10-week cycles have shown that while the total value stays in range (120-140), my HDL is almost shut down by the gear.

My last test showed 15 HDL and 110 LDL. That's got me concerned, but the doctor tells me that there are no drugs that really raise HDL, and my LDL is too low to take something like Lipitor (since too low cholesterol is also bad for health)...

my cholesterol was high when i was on, and very low when i was off. i think staying on for long periods of time is the wirst thing you can do. the blood pressure, elevated body temp, bloatedness, so hard on the kidneys alone, let alone the prostate getting slammed. people seem to think if they protect the liver all else is fine. staying on all year round also increases the size of your heart..... man, i could go on. if you stick to short cycles, and use steroids to gain some mass, and a great looking body, and dont abuse the stuff, you'll be fine. but if you have dreams like i did where you want to be the biggest guy in the gym, and win shows, you may end up with health issues. if s guy does 3 8-10 week cycles a year and thats it, and has blood work done, i doubt much will happen to him/her outside of infections, cycsts, acne, hairloss, gyno, etc. keep a good head about the gear, and you'll keep a good healthy body.

I agree with Willk. There are a lot of sides that are not 'obvious'. A PRO friend of mine, was just told that he has 5 years to live because his heart is so enlarged. All else is perfect but his heart is gone. Obviously his bodybuilding, etc is all over. And the thing is he is such a nice guy that reallly didn't deserve this. Very young too. HUGE as well. I assume that you will hear about it in the magazines soon if he chooses to make it public. It really brought home the dangers of what I am doing.
His bodybuilding is over. All he cares abut now is trying to salvage his health, nothing else matters obviously. I wish him so much good luck!

Even at 8-10 weeks, look at all the sides we risk getting... Well, this is why, although I thought it was initially Bullshit, I now favor shorter cycles, even as short as 3-4 weeks. I use to slam Bill Roberts short cycle ideas, then I realized that I'm not competing nor trying to be 250lbs at 5'9". I've never had any serious side effects and I'm very conservative and cautious about what I do (I've got a son and a daughter and I plan to be here for them for a very long time). Sure I never gain 30lbs on a cycle, but shit, that's not my goal. I think the yo-yo approach (e.g. lee priest), the stay massive approach (never come off), and the mega dose approach (gram a day, etc), all eventually catch up with you regardless of how many other drugs you take. Be safe - you've only got one body.

just my opinion,

DrG

Big A -- are there any warning signs for an enlarged heart? Something like high blood pressure, or it's hard to catch your breath or something? Or is the only way to check is to get a screening by your doctor (I assume a stress test/EKG type thing?)

Best of luck to your friend.

Big A,
A break is really good for you. When I start to get burned, I back out my workouts a little bit. It keeps me fresh.

sex drive

Last year I was on for maybe 9 months with very little break. The very beginning of this year I decided to drop a lot of weight, and at the same time come off (what's the point in staying on while you try and lose all the bulk... which it took me 12 months to get back on....grrr).

anyways, almost exactly same things as WillK said - esp the lack of sex drive. Four months later I wasn't sure it had even then fully recovered, but now I am on a moderate cycle, it's back hehehe

Oh yeah, IPs viagras came in damned handy when you are lack lustre in the sex drive dept - don't think he still makes them which is NOT GOOD! lol

None that I know off. Get a ECG - that's what I am doing in the next few days.
