I know TP4U kinda touched on this, but what about some VERY obvious prejudice's you have expereinced outside of the gym?
here's one of mine:
I started a new job and was supposed be getting trained by an experienced employee whose position i would be taking. Anyway, the training was supposed to be for a week and then i would be on my own. until then i was to be coached and demonstrated how to do everything. Anyway, after getting NO hands on training and NO oppurtunity to actually "do" the job, my "trainer" was sick and while she was gone i took over and did EVERYTHING she neglected to train me on.
When she came back the day after she was sick and saw me running things, she actually said," You can do all that already? I really didn't bother training you or showing you how to do it cuz i just thought you were a muscle head and wouldn't get it."

holy sh@$ i was offended cuz i don't think look like a muscle head... but i quickly forget there's not alot of people in creative fields that are 220 lbs and 10% bodyfat :D

LOL.... It's the same in the IT field bro. I can almost see them thinking ".... but he doesn't LOOK like a programmer." during meetings. Of course the I'm also the only one who isn't embarrassed about eating a meal while someone is writing on the whiteboard.

Usually it works to my advantage - under promise and over deliver. It's easy to impress folks when they don't expect much from the musclehead.

Just think back to when you were dying for people to recogize you as a muscle head, and you'll feel better. :)

so true johnny pro, so true...

yeah, its just a bit daunting. i mean if any of you are like me i still think i am the 170 lbs soccer player who actually used to "love cardio" now just typing that bores me:rolleyes:

Where do i start???

Ok my gym thread about covered part of it.

How bout waiting in line for food and hearing a guy tell his wife "that guy looks disgusting id never wanna look like that" loud enough as if he WANTED me to hear it (with my gf right there in range too). Kept quiet but wanted to be like, oh you are happy being a fat shit, you WISH you looked like me.

How bout people wispering loudly about your obvious steroid use and how your muscles are fake and full of air.

I can keep going on but ya know....id rather be big and deal with it :D cuz theres more compliments and perks than there is negative shit anyway

theres always the obivouis that im dumb, the tattoos and piercings dont help, until people start talking to me, then the people you see outside the gym are always like wow, you're really not an asshole like i thought, i think i get that the most

I've been asked if I murder people for a living

Your a better man than me. I would have turned around and asked him if he made that comment about me. Then I would have responded in the same fashion by telling him i dont want to look like an out of shape fatass who clothes look like rags when he wears them.

Then I would have handed his wife my business card, winked at her and to her to call me.

The looks I get at a buffet are almost unbearable.

And that's why we get a bad rap. It's better to ignore people like this because they are already IGNORANT. The only thing that's going to happen if you react childish is get a childish reaction in return, and you're only confirming their fears.

They're jealous, that's it! I hear it EVERY SINGLE DAY, no matter what I do - and even AT THE GYM! But all of the BS happens behind my back, never directly to my face.

To my face, they ask for advice, ask what supplements I use, how I eat, how I train, etc. And then they compliment me and ask if I compete. This happens nearly every time I hit the gym, and definitely every day this week and last. So I focus on those people and give them as much as I possibly can.

As for the assholes and haters, I'll let them live in their deprived little lives and continue to look down upon the people they envy.

exactly

Their ignorance is our power. That's why we are such a tight-knit group. People don't understand us, and most likely probably never will. But isn't that sort of, kind of, part of the reason we did in the first place. To be different... I know a lot of stuff sucks about prejudices and what people say. But we have to thrive on the positive compliments and stares that we get all day long. Its ok brother, we're all in the same boat. And beleive me, we're in a boat, that nobody is going to try to sink. except for the MLB and maybe a few others :p

good way to put it ironserenity!

i love being part of the "iron brother hood." love it when you meet another lifter and you instantly judge each other correctly (ie. you know they have discipline and drive, and prolly know the protein content of tuna and eggs atleast:D ) much of us have all had the same journey and its cool to recognize in someone else.

LMFAO. I KNOW!!!! Isnt it fuckin WEIRD how when you meet another gym junkie or bodybuilder you INSTANTLY feel like you just CONNECT and have known each other forever like they are your new buddie.

Yeah, but the kids like crawling all over us like human jungle gyms. :D
I never wear tight clothes in professional settings.

unintelligence- i think we all get this one.

arrogance- im shy naturally so it doesn't help how i'm percieved. my quietness is mistaken for arrogance so people think i feel i'm better than them. nothing could be further from the truth.

but the bad part about all the stereotypes we suffer is that someone, somewhere who looks like they work- out has left enough of a negative impression to make those who do stereotype us think we are all like this.

i try to keep this im mind whenever i interact with others, cause i have always been judged even before i have opened my mouth.

BFU

Yea, it is funny. At first there is sort of that look of "is there really another one in the same place I am???"
Then I almost always feel obligated to go up and just introduce myself.
Big mean ol looking guy, then you say hi, and he's the nicest bro that has tons of advice and stuff in common, its a great feeling!

The most common comment I hear is "wow, you must workout 4 hours a day, 8 days a week." If they only knew it was more like 45 mins/day, 2-3 times a week!

As all of you experienced guys know.... It has far more to do with diet and recuperation and far less to do with time spent in the gym!
