Cholesterol sups for lowering LDL

My wifes best friend has had high cholesterol her whole life , both her parents have it and grand parents on both sides had it. In the past year she has brough it way closer to a reasonable number but wants to try to get it in the safe zone without resorting to statins.
(NOTE : her diet it pretty low fat , not many good fats like free range eggs and quality beef , would eating more good cholesterol help?)

Her last labs have the LDL at 177 , and , HDL at 34.

Would taking omega-3 caps , 1200mg Red Yeast rice and 500mg Niacin help to bring these numbers closer to optimal?

I take these sups to raise my HDL and it works but not sure what if any effect they would have on lowering the LDL
 
I too have a family hx of cholesterol probs, so need to keep and eye out for myself.

I take Lecithin capsules every day because they help emulsify fat in the liver, hence this fat is easier to break down and so cholesterol levels remain healthy.

My cholesterol levels always remain good despite a family hx of problems in this area.

Niacin didnt change my LDL's much but it did raise my HDL's a few points, even while i was on a hefty dose of test and some tren.
 
Just my 2 cents...

1. Read Mountaindogs thread on cholesterol

2. LDL is really an incomplete reading.. There are many forms of LDL and to get an accurate and consise picture, you need to test individually (LDLa, LDLb, VLDL, etc.).. Unfortunately most doctors don't test for all forms. Some forms are inflammatory and some are not.

Inflammation is the key marker here and that should be tested for and kept in check.. There is no mention of Triglycerides.. A good marker of inflammation..

3. Eat more saturated fats like (whole eggs, coconut oil, and grass fed butter) which reduce inflammation and provide more protection..
 
Lots you could do, pathethine 900 mg a day, vit c 2000 mg a day, flax 3000 mg 3 x a day, buggy lipid 500 mg 3 x a day, 4000 mug allicin a day, red yeast rice 1200 mg 2 x a day, niacin needs to be higher to lower cholesterol and liver enzymes need to be monitored if using that approach
 
If you are going to take red yeast rice, you must take coq10 with it.
 
Look into Nialor. It's supposed to be more effective than other forms of Niacin.
 
You mentioned she wants to get into the safe zone without resorting to statins... Keep in mind, Red Yeast Rice IS a statin. In addition to niacin and lecithin and other healthy fats, I would suggest ALA and NAC
