Does anybody do any type of construction or any type of hard labor in here? If so, what type? And also when do you like to fit in your training? Am or Pm? What adjustments do you make in your diet also? I'm about to get this job roofing, but i'm just going to be a helper. What kind of tasks does that involve? It's something so I can just save a little bit of money until I start school again Thanks! -StOrY

I did years of hard labor and had some of the best workouts. I am now the boss(a license contractor) and really do not do much physical work. My advice: stay focus, work hard and have goals in life!

Oh boy am I an expert on this. From concrete work, pipe laying too
landscaping and worst of all ....ROOFING. Some may disagree but I
find roofing the most physical taxing job I ever had. dangerous too.
I know a guy who fell and died because the felt paper tore from the
staples, ok anyway, Now I run a small landscape business which means
I do alot of my own work. It is hard as hell not to overtrain and gain
in this line of work. What I do is workout early in the morning when I'm
fresh because after a hard hot day in the sun I guarantee going to the
gym will be the last thing on your mind.

I do some serious hard labor....as a Financial Advisor it's tough to sit here at this desk all day watching the stock market go up...down...down...down!!! it can really wear on the ol' heart!! :)

Now you know why workers comp is the highest for roofing! Never hire a uninsured or unlicensed roofer! TOO MUCH TOO LOSE!

Yep. And you better have a good back, there's alota bending over too :(

THE OLDER YOU GET THE SMARTER YOU GET!

Realistically, if I bump my cals up by like 500, and work out in the morning before work( I wont have to be there until eight), I should be ok as far as still make good gains right? A good friend of mine is in concrete...he works out right after work 3 days a week, and he is pretty damn big still! The main thing I'm worried about is my workouts suffering with this new job. I'm not too concerned with the hard work! I'm still a young whippersnapper!lol -StOrY

I did it many years ago when i was younger. My advice, get in a hearty breakfast, lots of carbs on your breaks and at lunch and keep your training sessions short but heavy...and most importantly, get lots of sleep...ie no going out for beers with the guys after work!

My avatar is when I was delivering beer and kegs 10 to 14 hrs. a day. I don't miss it.......But I stayed decently lean.......

Wow! That's definately some inspiration and motivation! Thanks! -StOrY

I'm in heavy-highway construction in a very hot climate, so the summer months are never fun. Luckily, I've moved up in position through the years so I don't have to break my back in the field quite as much. I'd always train the late afternoon mainly because I already would have to wake up 3 am to get to work by daylight. Granted, the afternoon workout after a day of hard labor isn't the greatest, but I always seemed to be able to get the energy for a good workout regardless. When possible, I'd always try to make my work fit in somehow with light exercise.

STORY

Did it for years and still do ( framing mostly) , it will take some time to adjust so be patient, but when you do you will be fine, eat enough, sleep enough and only train, M,W,F for one hour or less. BTW I am in my late 40's , 5' 9" and 200lbs @ 9% bf, and i don't ever have to do cardio. :p

When I was still doing construction before I became co-owner.. I would take a nap before I would do an evening workout.

1 hour power naps and a refreshing shower really helps.

thank god i retired from that and now have an office job :D

Have my own business's. Landscaping and paving/stone mason and have a few helpers . Train in the morning then meet up with the crews around lunch and work till whenever the work is done. Lot's of fluids and try to increase protien. Roofing is a mofo and the helpers job is the worst. Carrying the shingles up on the roof and the other material. Tylenol and gatorade and you might make it through the summer!

I have 2 other guys and we form and dig(w/picks and shovels) concrete footings and we pour foundation walls. Some of the hardest work and in Atlanta it gets freakin' HOT!I'm doing my first show in April and have been doing Palumbo's diet w/great results.(198@5%).So it can be done w/persistants and dedication.I workout 5-6 days a week in the evening after work

Cool man! Thanks for the feedback! It's reallly great to hear from all these people! It assures me even more that I can do it myself! Thanks everyone for your experience and hope! -StOrY

You'll be fine. Your main consern should be dehydration. I find Gator Aid
best during the day. Supplies a good balance of carbs and replaces the
electrolytes lost during sweating. All and all a good energy drink.
