COUNSELING FORUM RULES - A MUST READ!!!

The Counseling Forum rules do not nullify any existing Professionalmuscle rules. Additionally, all of the main forum's rules of Professionalmuscle still apply to the Counseling Forum. In addition to the standard forum rules, the following additional rules will apply both forwardly and retroactively as the case may be, inside the Counseling Forum:

1. Since the possibility exists of severe harm to an individual's mental (or other) health, any moderator can, at his or her discretion, temporarily or permanently terminate membership immediately and without warning and without regard to any status of the member.

2. The Counseling Forum should never be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Any posts, threads, or questions related to these actions will be removed or locked. This is not an arguable point and any action on the part of a member to disrupt the forum can have his/her membership revoked temporarily or permanently at the moderators' discretion.

3. Discussing drugs and/or drug-related therapies is prohibited. A member may already be in treatment and/or receiving treatment and such discussion could cause a disruption in treatment and possible irreparable harm to a fellow member. Be extremely cautious in this area. Medications should be discussed with a doctor or other licensed professional only, not in the Counseling Forum.

4. No medical advice will be given in any way whatsoever other than to direct an individual to a professional, and if a professional is not available, to call the nearest emergency response center for emergency care.

5. Be nice to one another. Any responses that contain vitriol or otherwise harsh words or phrases can worsen another member's situation to a great degree. Special care must be taken to be a friend to a member's situation in their time of need. Harsh words and language in the Counseling Forum can result in your membership being temporarily or permanently revoked.

6. Be tolerant at all times. Any posts deemed to be prejudicial or hateful to any gender, race, creed, financial status, religion, sexual orientation, or any other specific group will be deleted immediately and if necessary, possible further action in regards to the offender's membership.

7. Lastly, the counseling forum is not to be used by new members to increase their post count. Any appearance of "post whoring" will not be tolerated, the posts will be removed, and you may be subject to membership suspension or elimination.

These rules have been approved of and by the board administrators and the owner and are not open to debate. We are all here to help one another in a friendly way. Be a friend and feel free to offer friendly advice in regards to another member's predicament. If you feel that the member has asked a question that is beyond the scope of friendly advice, please contact a moderator or direct them to a professional to receive proper treatment
as indicated above.

Summary of rules is simple and direct. Be kind and caring to one another. This forum is to remain a haven for members to come and discuss the ordinary problems of everyday life. In order for a forum of this kind to be successful, an individual must be safe from harsh and hurtful responses from other members. Please be kind and keep each other safe from harm. You have that power. Use it responsibly.

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to bump the rules of the Counselling and Support Forum. Mainly because I admittedly did not read them before posting in this section. In one of my threads recently some of the rules were violated and a member recieved a 30day ban. At first I didn't see what the big deal was and lobbyed the mod to shorten the ban. After reading the rules and contemplating the seriousness of some of the issues discussed here, I realize how important it is to follow this forum's rules as well as Pro Muscle's general rules.
The rules are in place for our safety as well as the board's. Let's respect the rules and the mods for keeping a handle on things.

The 10's of thousands of people coming to and from this counseling forum every year, 1200 people have read these rules.

Thanks for the bump! And thanks for being a solid member of ProM!

I was scratching my head at the latest clean up OTH did on the "relapse" thread, and even sent OTH a pm on this, but after reading the rules again, it's crystal clear that those suffering from a diagnosable medical illness, and alcoholism is one of those diseases, cannot be given treatment advice, or give our experiences that maybe viewed as advice, it's clearly against the rules, which i have violated. I respect the work OTH does here, so my posts need to reflect that. :)

We all work here. We all need to work together. It's sad and it does seem harsh at times but we all have to understand that someone with a disease (such as addiction) needs to be treated by a professional and not get a thread with 15 different "experiences" or "advisements" on how to get well. This has to be done in a careful process. We all must work together to SUPPORT these individuals, offer supportive comments and best wishes, continued success, keep up the good work, but I've been highly patient at letting many of these things slide because I fully understand that it feels very rewarding to offer one's own experiences of overcoming or living with a particular disease to someone else in the hope that it will help them as well.

But when someone is in crisis or danger of relapse, you are not being a friend by offering them advice. How are you going to live with yourself if the next week, you discover the particular individual died of an overdose because he was praying to Jesus instead of seeking medical advice? Don't you know that grace BUILDS on nature? You can't pray your way through a hurricane. You do everything physically possible and then pray for the grace to get through. It's not a one-stop-shop.

I to hope and, in face, pray that you all take this to heart and try to understand what this means. We need to keep this board healthy and safe. And I don't want any member or administrator of this board getting a subpoena for offering medical advice to an individual who had injured themselves or even worse.

I hope you understand.

Take care of yourselves and when taking care of each other, know when to say when. Keep yourselves safe (and this board) by using common sense.

Peace,

OTH and the ProM Team

Thank You. Many people have been, to their surprise, banned from the board and they have no idea why. The reason is in this thread.

Thanks again, and welcome to the board!

great post here makes me think of that kid over at bb.com that killed himself years ago. if just a few people would have done the things listed in the rules here he could have gotten help.
