I smoker 30 plus years ago ,and my old family doc told me a way to get started in quiting .
I know this is going to sound stupid , but it has worked for me and many of my friends.
First get get a rubber band and put it around your wrist and everytime you think of smoking pop yourself , just enough for it to sting a little.
It is negative reinforcement , like Pavlov and his dogs.
In addition everyday take one cigarette outa the pack and through it away.
It is like weaning you off them.
Try it.
It doesn’t cost a thing.
